An oil pump that can be reduced in weight and is excellent in wear resistance and easy to manufacture is provided. The oil pump includes an oil pump housing formed of aluminum alloy, and an inner rotor and an outer rotor that slide along the oil pump housing with contact kept therebetween to suck and discharge oil. Composite layers including porous metallic bodies are arranged at parts of the oil pump housing that contact the inner rotor and the outer rotor. Pores of the porous metallic bodies are impregnated with the aluminum alloy constituting the oil pump housing.

Oil pump

A metal porous body having a skeleton which has a foam structure, composed of an alloy composed mainly of Fe and Cr and includes a Cr carbide and/or FeCr carbide uniformly dispersed therein. The metal porous bodies are obtained by preparing a slurry mainly composed of an Fe oxide powder of average particle not more than 5 &mgr;m, at least one powder selected from among metallic Cr, Cr alloy and Cr oxide powders, thermosetting resin and a diluent; applying this slurry onto a foamed resin core body; then drying, and then forming a metal porous body by firing in a non-oxidizing atmosphere, including a heat-treatment at 950 to 1350&deg; C. The metal porous bodies thus obtained have excellent heat resistance, corrosion resistance and strength and are useful as electrode base plates, catalyst supports and filter materials, and furthermore, as metallic composite materials.

A battery electrode substrate which is constituted of a porous metallic body structure having communicating pores at a porosity of at least 90% and an Fe/Ni multilayer structure wherein the skeletal portion of the porous metallic body is composed mainly of Fe and has an Ni covering layer on the surface thereof while pores communicating with the inside and outside of Fe skeletal portion exist in the Fe skeletal portion and the inside of the pores is covered with Ni. The electrode substrate is produced by applying an iron oxide powder of at most 20 .mu.m in an average particle size on a porous resin core body; heat treating the core to remove an organic resin component while simultaneously sintering Fe to obtain a porous Fe body; and then covering the Fe skeletal portion with Ni by electroplating. In this process, the iron oxide can be used in combination with carbon powder. Further, a nickel porous sintered body can also be produced using nickel oxide in place of iron oxide.

Battery electrode substrate and process for producing the same

An electrode plate for a battery is constructed from a porous metal body having at least one low-porosity part selectively arranged therein. A porous resin core is coated with a paste having a metal component, passed through rolls provided with at least one recess to thereby form at least one low-porosity part and sintered. The resultant electrode plate for battery is not only ensured with respect to strength and capable of improving battery performance but also advantageous in that it is available at lowered cost and free from apprehension of supply of raw materials.

An electrode substrate, for a battery, as a support for an active material used in a collector for a battery, comprising a metallic porous structure possessing interconnecting pores with a porosity of not less than 90% and a number of pores per cm of not less than 10 and having an Fe/Ni two-layer structure wherein Fe constitutes the interior of a skeleton of a porous body constituting the porous structure with the surface portion of the skeleton coated with Ni. Preferably, Fe constituting the interior of the skeleton has a purity of not less than 98% by weight, and the thickness of the nickel coating layer having an Fe content of not more than 10% by weight is 0.1 to 10 .mu.m. The ratio of thickness of the Fe-diffused layer to the thickness of the Ni coating layer is regulated to not more than 0.65 by forming a metallic porous body of Fe using a porous resin as a substrate, plating the metallic porous body with Ni, heat treating the plated body.

Electrode substrate for battery and process for preparing the same

An insulating board having a substrate, and an insulating film of silicon oxide formed on the surface of the substrate by vapor phase deposition. In forming the film, the forming conditions are controlled so that the film is formed in an overhang or conformal shape at initial stage and then in a flow shape. Thereby, both good adhesion and excellent insulation properties are achieved.

A process for preparing a metallic porous body, comprising: forming a layer comprising Cu, a Cu alloy, or a precursor thereof onto a skeleton composed of a porous resin body having a three-dimensional network, heat-treating the resin body with the layer formed thereon to remove a heat-decomposable organic component, thereby forming a porous metallic skeleton of Cu or a Cu alloy; and plating the surface of the Cu or Cu alloy skeleton with Ni or an Ni alloy. The heat treating may be carried out by direct induction heating. The metallic porous body is useful as electrodes for batteries, various filters, carriers for catalysts, etc. When the porous body is cut and used as the electrode substrate, the coating of an area, where Cu or its alloy has been exposed by cutting or the like, with a third metal having a lower ionization tendency than Cu or its alloy can provide an electrode substrate having better corrosion resistance and battery service life.

A method for synthesizing a diamond by vapor deposition permits selectively growing high quality diamond on any desired region of a base material at a lower temperature compared to respective conventional temperatures starting with a raw material gas which is prepared by diluting a compound containing carbon atoms such as methane with hydrogen gas. This diluted raw material gas is irradiated with a laser beam satisfying at least one of the following two conditions, namely a spread angle of 1.times.10.sup.-1 mrad to 5.times.10.sup.-1 mrad during oscillation or a half-power band width of 1.times.10.sup.-4 nm to 1.times.10.sup.-1 nm with respect to a band width of an oscillation having a wavelength of 190 nm to 360 nm. Diamond is deposited on the base material from a chemical species generated by such irradiation.
