A disk array device comprises: a hard disk drive module including a disk for recording information thereon and having one side that has a length substantially equal to the diameter of the disk; a battery nodule; an operation module; a fan module having at least one cooling fan; a controller module having a controller; a power supply module provided for supplying power to the modules; a circuit board to which the above-mentioned modules are connected via electrical connectors; and a substantially box-shaped chassis in which the modules and the circuit board are housed. A front surface and a rear surface of the chassis are opened in a rectangular shape. A length of one side of the opened front surface of the chassis is substantially the same length as the one side of the hard disk drive module.

Disk array device

A disk array device comprises: a hard disk drive module including a disk for recording information thereon and having one side that has a length substantially equal to the diameter of the disk; a battery module; an operation module; a fan module having at least one cooling fan; a controller module having a controller; a power supply module provided for supplying power to the modules; a circuit board to which the above-mentioned modules are connected via electrical connectors; and a substantially box-shaped chassis in which the modules and the circuit board are housed. A front surface and a rear surface of the chassis are opened in a rectangular shape. A length of one side of the opened front surface of the chassis is substantially the same length as the one side of the hard disk drive module.

The information storage apparatus has an internal structure and arrangement of fans in consideration of the cooling effect. The capacity of the entire apparatus can be smaller than that of a conventional apparatus and an optimum air channel can be formed so as to maintain reliability of performance, life and the like of components at high temperatures. Further, relatively speaking, a module which does not produce a large amount of heat and does not require cooling is provided in a front stage of the channel while a module including heat-producing components and a cooling fan is provided in a rear stage of the channel.

Data storage system

An object is to effectively cool down an electronic equipment which is face with height limitations and tends to readily increase in heat generation amount to thereby provide the reliability required. The interior of a chassis of a control unit is partitioned by a back board into a front side space and a rear side space. In the rear side space, two control modules are attached so that these are stacked up and down, while two fan modules and a single duct member are attached in the front side space. Each fan module has two fans as built therein. A cooling air stream or 'wind' from each fan flows into the lower-side control module through the duct member and others, whereas a cooling wind from the other fan flows into the upper-side control module. Even when either one of the fan modules goes down during operation, it is still possible by using the remaining fan module to cool down the both control modules.

Electronic equipment

A disk storage subsystem allocating an equivalent number of hard disk drives to each loop, alternately connecting the connecting bays of hard disk drives to optical fiber channels provided with two or more fiber channel loops for optimizing load balancing.

Load balancing storage system

The present invention manages disk-drive types in a storage device in which a mixture of disk drives of a plurality of types with different interfaces is stored. The storage device enclosure stores a mixture of an FC disk driveF with a fiber channel interface and a SATA disk drive with a serial interface. The SATA disk drive is connected to a fiber channel via an FC/SATA interface connection devicethat performs interface conversion. At startup and so forth, the controllerissues an inquiry to the enclosure management unit or to each of the disk drives and, based on the address allocated to each of the disk drives, or similar, automatically confirms the type of each disk drive and manages the confirmation results.

A magnetic disk memory device of the invention has a shroud accommodating replaceable or changeable disk packs and air passages through which air is circulated to cool the disk packs and the access mechanism. This air passage is formed, when a shroud cover for closing the space in the shroud is in the closing position, to recirculate the air through the space in the shroud, while, when the shroud cover is in the opening position, to discharge the air delivered by a blower to the outside of the shroud through the opening of the latter. The air passage has an air filter for filtrating the air.
