An image processing apparatus includes a corrector and a determinator. The corrector corrects a correspondence between display pixels of a display unit and data pixels on an image signal to be inputted to the display pixels so that at least one of the display pixels is defined as a mask pixel to which the image signal is no longer inputted. The determinator determines a gradation of the mask pixel in accordance with a gradation indicated by the image signal to be inputted to an edge pixel that is included in the display pixels and located at an edge of the display pixels.

In accordance with an embodiment of the invention, a control unit of the electro-optical device performs black data insertion processing for all the pixels in a vertical retrace period and each of the pixels includes a first subpixel and at least one second subpixel. Accordingly, blur of a motion picture is suppressed (a motion picture is improved in visual quality) by the black data insertion processing while using the minimum number of switching devices in the pixel unit.

Each of the pixels includes at least two adjacent subpixels as a group. An electro-optical device includes: a substrate; a plurality of wiring lines which is formed on the substrate; and an IC which is mounted on the substrate so as to be electrically connected to the plurality of wiring lines. At least a pair of wiring lines among the plurality of wiring lines include a first conductive layer formed on the substrate and a second conductive layer formed on at least the first conductive layer. The first conductive layer and the second conductive layer have different resistance values. The first conductive layer of one of the pair of wiring lines has a plurality of first resistors each extending toward the other wiring line, and the second conductive layer of the other wiring line has a second resistor extending toward the one wiring line. An image display includes the following components. A display panel has a plurality of pixels arrayed in a first direction and a second direction intersecting the first direction. A light source emits light toward the display panel. A polarization-axis control unit separates the light emitted from the light source into light having a first polarization axis and light having a second polarization axis. An optical element allows the light emitted from the light source to travel in a direction substantially orthogonal to the first direction. The polarization-axis control unit includes a first substrate, a second substrate, a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the first and second substrates, a first electrode, a second electrode, and a third electrode. The third electrode is superposed over the first electrode and the second electrode in a region corresponding to a pixel array area of the display panel.

An image display device includes: pixels in first and second directions; a polarization controller providing first and second polarization axis light; and a controller. The polarization controller includes first electrodes extending in the first direction on a first substrate with a predetermined interval in the second direction, and second electrodes extending in the first direction on a second substrate with an interval in the second direction twice the predetermined interval. The controller switches display between dual-screen and three-dimensional modes. In the dual-screen mode, the controller applies voltages to the second electrodes so adjacent electrodes have opposite phases, and applies the same phase voltage as one of the second electrode voltages to the first electrodes. In the three-dimensional mode, the controller applies voltages to the first electrodes so adjacent electrodes have opposite phases, and applies the same phase voltage as one of the first electrode voltages to the second electrodes.

An electro-optical apparatus is provided which corrects a voltage applied to a pixel with high accuracy. An electro-optical apparatus includes a correction circuit. When, for example, a positive-polarity selection voltage +Vis applied to a scanning line during the second-half period of one horizontal scanning period, the correction circuit detects a spike resulting from voltage switching from a voltage &#x2212;V/2 to a voltage +V/2 on the data lines, determines whether the level of the detected spike is a threshold level or more, and if a determination is made that the level of the detected spike is the threshold level or more, adds a pulse with the same polarity as that of the detected spike to a selection-voltage supply line in the second-half period following the first-half period.
