An exhaust gas purification control device for an internal combustion engine is provided with: a detection unit for detecting an air-fuel ratio or rich/lean state of exhaust gas that flows out of a first catalyst disposed at upstream side; estimating unit for estimating the oxygen adsorption amount on the first catalyst and a second catalyst; and an enrichment control unit for enriching or set the degree of richness temporarily by varying the degree of richness of injected fuel when the amount of the oxygen adsorption on the first catalyst and the second catalyst is estimated to be equal to or greater than a predetermined value. The enrichment control unit sets the degree of richness of the injected fuel to a first degree of richness that is greater than stoichiometry from the start of the enrichment process, and maintains the first degree of richness even after the output of the detection unit has reached a stoichiometric air-fuel ratio or rich/lean value.

Exhaust gas purification control device for an internal combustion engine

An apparatus for an exhaust gas system includes a main exhaust passage, a main catalytic converter disposed in the main exhaust passage, a bypass exhaust passage, a bypass catalytic converter disposed in the bypass exhaust passage, and a valve configured to open or close a section of the main exhaust passage. The bypass exhaust passage bypasses the main exhaust passage between a branch point of the bypass exhaust passage out of the main exhaust passage and a junction with the main exhaust passage at a upstream side of the main catalytic converter. A first sensor indicates a first air-fuel ratio of exhaust gas in the bypass exhaust passage. A second sensor indicates a second air-fuel ratio of exhaust gas flowing into the main catalytic converter. A controller determines whether the valve in the closed configuration leaks exhaust gas based on the first and second air-fuel ratios of exhaust gas.

Diagnostic apparatus for an exhaust gas purification system of an internal combustion engine, an exhaust gas purification system and a diagnostic method thereof

An internal combustion engine includes a main catalyst disposed in a main passage and a bypass catalyst disposed in a bypass passage bypassing the main passage on an upstream side of the main catalyst. The bypass passage has a smaller transverse cross-sectional area than the main passage. The internal combustion engine further includes a passage open/close unit, a residual gas amount changing unit, and a controller. The passage open/close unit is disposed in a portion of the main passage bypassed by the bypass passage to switch between an open state and a closed state. The residual gas amount changing unit is configured to change an amount of residual gas inside a combustion chamber. The controller is configured to control the residual gas amount changing unit when a passage opening condition for switching the passage open/close unit from the closed state to the open state is satisfied.

Internal combustion engine and control method for internal combustion engine

An exhaust gas passageway of an internal combustion engine is basically provided with a main exhaust passageway, a bypass exhaust passageway, a bypass catalytic converter provided in the bypass exhaust passageway, a bypass control valve, an upstream air-fuel ratio sensor and a downstream air-fuel ratio sensor. The bypass exhaust passageway bypasses a portion of the main exhaust passageway between an upstream junction and a downstream junction. The bypass control valve opens or closes a portion of the main exhaust passageway. The upstream air-fuel ratio sensor is disposed upstream of the bypass catalytic converter to sense air-fuel ratio of an exhaust gas flowing into the bypass catalytic converter. The downstream air-fuel ratio sensor is disposed downstream of the bypass catalytic converter to sense air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gas flowing out of the bypass catalytic converter.

Exhaust system

An air-fuel ratio control apparatus is basically provided with an exhaust system, a first sensor and a controller. The exhaust system includes an exhaust channel with a main catalytic converter disposed therein, a bypass channel with a bypass catalytic converter disposed therein, and a valve mechanism disposed in the exhaust channel between the connection points of the exhaust channel to switch a pathway for exhaust gas from the exhaust channel to the bypass channel. The first sensor detects a property indicative of an air-fuel ratio of exhaust flowing in the exhaust channel at a point downstream of the valve mechanism. The controller adjusts an element temperature of the first sensor to a prescribed temperature or less during a prescribed interval of time from when the valve mechanism is switched from a closed state to an open state.

Air-fuel ratio control apparatus

Sulphur oxides in the exhaust gas of a vehicle engine () are trapped by a nitrogen oxide trapping catalyst (A). A controller () calculates the sulphur oxide poisoning amount of the trapping catalyst (A) from the running condition of the vehicle (S), and desulphating the sulphur oxides by a removing mechanism (). The release amount of sulphur oxides per unit time due to desulphating is set as a parameter based on the sulphur oxide poisoning amount (S), and by integrating the calculated release amount using the parameter, the current poisoning amount is calculated, and the release completion timing is precisely found.

Desulphating of nitrogen oxide trapping catalyst

An air-fuel ratio control system for an internal combustion engine provided with a NOx trap catalyst which is disposed in an exhaust gas passageway and arranged to trap NOx when the air-fuel ratio of exhaust gas flowing to the NOx trap catalyst is lean and to release and reduce trapped NOx when the air-fuel ratio is rich. The air-fuel ratio control system comprises a sensor for detecting an air-fuel ratio of exhaust gas in the exhaust gas passageway downstream of the NOx trap catalyst. Additionally, a control circuit is provided and configured to cause the engine to operate at a rich air-fuel ratio to accomplish a rich air-fuel ratio engine operation after an engine operation at a lean air-fuel ratio, and continue the rich air-fuel ratio engine operation for a duration even after the sensor has detected that the air-fuel ratio of exhaust gas is rich.

Air-fuel ratio control system for internal combustion engine

An optical cross-connect system which can be constructed using the same kind of optical switches having a small extinction ratio and a small number of optical switch driving circuits is provided. The optical signal selector in the system comprises a first optical switching device for permitting only the wavelength-division multiplexed light beam passing through one of plural optical paths to pass, a wavelength router for demultiplexing the permitted multiplexed light beam into optical signals of different wavelengths and respectively outputting these demultiplexed signals into different output ports, this router having a routing characteristic such that the output port to which each demultiplexed signal is output is different for each input port, a second optical switching device for permitting only one of the optical signals output from plural optical paths connected to the output ports of the wavelength router to pass, and an optical combiner for combining the optical paths of the second optical switching device.

Optical cross-connect system

Two catalytic converters are disposed in series midway in an engine exhaust passage, and a by-pass valve selectively introduces exhaust into the upstream converter and a by-pass passage which by-passes the converter. When the catalyst temperature of the upstream catalytic converter exceeds a threshold value A, exhaust is routed to the by-pass passage. The catalyst temperature in the state when exhaust is routed to the upstream catalytic converter under steady state engine running conditions is stored as a convergence temperature depending on the engine running conditions. When exhaust is routed to the by-pass passage, exhaust is re-introduced into the upstream converter only when both the catalyst temperature and the convergence temperature corresponding to the running conditions at that time are less than a threshold value B which is less than the threshold value A. In this way, hunting of the by-pass valve operation is prevented.

Engine exhaust purifier

A control constant in air-fuel ratio feedback control is determined based on steady state engine running conditions. The difference between the exhaust gas temperature when the engine is In the steady state and the real exhaust gas temperature is found, and the control constant is corrected to rich or lean based on this difference. Preferably, the control constant is corrected to rich when the real exhaust gas temperature is lower than the steady state exhaust gas temperature by more than a fixed value. In the ignition timing control system, a basic ignition timing is corrected in accordance with an ignition timing correction amount which is calculated in accordance with a difference between an air-fuel ratio within in a combustion chamber for each engine cylinder and a stoichiometric air-fuel ratio. The air-fuel ratio within the combustion chamber is calculated from an air-fuel ratio feedback control parameter, taking account of a predetermined time lag characteristic of a variation of the air-fuel ratio relative to that of the control parameter.
