An aggregate of carbon nanotubes has an acid adsorption amount equal to or greater than 0.6 mass % and equal to or less than 12 mass %, which is obtained by subjecting a starting material composition containing carbon nanotubes to a two-stage wet oxidation treatment. A method of producing an aggregate of carbon nanotubes includes a primary oxidation treatment step, wherein a starting material composition containing carbon nanotubes is subjected to a wet oxidation treatment to give a primary treated aggregate of carbon nanotubes having a ratio (G/D ratio) of the height of G band to that of D band in Raman spectroscopic analysis at 532 nm wavelength equal to or greater than 30; and a secondary oxidation treatment step of performing a wet oxidation treatment under an oxidizing condition stronger than that of the primary oxidation treatment step.

Provided is a process for producing a dispersion liquid of carbon nanotube aggregates in which the carbon nanotube aggregates are dispersed in a dispersion medium, comprising the two steps: (A) a step of adsorbing a dispersant to carbon nanotube aggregates by physical dispersion treatment in a dispersion medium to prepare a carbon nanotube paste with a particle size of 100 nm to 20 &#x3bc;m resulting from partial dissociation of a mass of the carbon nanotube aggregates; and (B) a step of dispersing the carbon nanotube paste by ultrasonic dispersion treatment. A process for producing a dispersion liquid of carbon nanotube aggregates with reduced destruction and breakage of graphite structure of a carbon nanotube aggregate can be provided.

Method for manufacturing dispersion liquid of carbon nanotube aggregates

Provided is an aggregate of carbon nanotubes wherein a mixture of 10 mg of aggregate of carbon nanotubes, 30 mg of sodium polystyrene sulfonate and 10 mL of water is subjected to ultrasonic homogenizer treatment, subsequently subjected to centrifugal treatment at 20000 G, then 9 mL of supernatant is sampled, and the content of aggregate of carbon nanotubes in the supernatant is 0.6 mg/mL or more. The aggregate of carbon nanotubes of the present invention can provide a dispersion of an aggregate of carbon nanotubes having a high concentration through very good dispersibility.

Disclosed is a composition containing carbon nanotubes which meets all of the following conditions (1) to (4). (1) When observed via transmission electron microscopy, at least 50 out of every 100 carbon nanotubes are double-walled carbon nanotubes. The disclosed composition containing carbon nanotubes primarily has double-walled carbon nanotubes with high electrical conductivity and high heat resistance.

Composition containing carbon nanotubes, catalyst for producing carbon nanotubes, and aqueous dispersion of carbon nanotubes

Provided is an aggregate of carbon nanotubes satisfying (1) there is a 2&#x3b8; peak at 24&#xb0;&#xb1;2&#xb0; by X-ray powder diffraction analysis; (2) a height ratio (G/D ratio) of G band to D band by Raman spectroscopic analysis of wavelength 532 nm is 30 or more; and (3) a combustion peak temperature is from 550&#xb0; C. to 700&#xb0; C. The present invention provides an aggregate of carbon nanotubes excellent in dispersibility while high quality, giving a film, molded article, membrane or the like having excellent characteristics.
