A supercharged engine having an electrically operated water pump for supplying cooling water to an intercooler in a compact layout. The supercharged engine includes a supercharger disposed rearwardly of a cylinder assembly of the engine, a drive pulley mounted on a supercharger drive shaft of the engine, a driven pulley mounted on an input shaft of the supercharger, a drive belt trained around the drive pulley and the driven pulley, an intercooler for cooling supercharging air that is supplied from the supercharger, and an electrically operated water pump for delivering cooling water under pressure to the intercooler. The supercharged engine also includes a belt tensioner for tensioning the drive belt. The electrically operated water pump is disposed on a crankcase which is positioned more closely to the center of the engine across the width thereof in directions along a crankshaft of the engine than the belt tensioner.

Supercharged engine

A hybrid vehicle is provided in which a hybrid type power unit is mounted to a vehicle body frame, the power unit having an engine with an engine body of which part is formed by a crankcase rotatably supporting a crankshaft, a transmission for changing speed of driving force transmitted from the crankshaft, and an electric motor capable of transmitting the driving force to the transmission, wherein the electric motor () is mounted to a lower portion at a front face of the engine body (A). Thus, it is possible to prevent the position of the center of gravity from becoming higher according to the disposition of the electric motor, and to carry out sufficient cooling of the electric motor by utilizing traveling wind.

Hybrid vehicle

In an in-cylinder injection type multicylinder internal combustion engine for uneven interval firing, including a plurality of air-fuel mixture injection valves for directly injecting an air-fuel mixture into a combustion chamber of each cylinder, the air-fuel mixture injection valves being mounted on a multicylinder engine body and each having a fuel injection valve and an air injection valve, and an air pump actuatable by power transmitted from a crankshaft for discharging compressed air. The air pump is connected in common to the air-fuel mixture injection valves with the injection pressure of the air-fuel mixture injection valves in each cylinder being prevented from changing for good combustibility. The discharge timing of the air pump is set out of synchronism with the injection timings of the fuel injection valves and the air injection valves of all the cylinders.

In-cylinder injection type multicylinder internal combustion engine

A hybrid vehicle driving device including an engine drive system transmitting a drive force of an engine to a transmission through a one-way clutch and transmitting a drive force after shifting by the transmission to a rear wheel and a motor drive system transmitting a drive force of a motor to the rear wheel, the drive force of the motor of the motor drive system is joined to a point upstream the transmission and downstream the one-way clutch in the engine drive system. The transmission includes a twin clutch capable of shifting between neighboring shift gears by alternately switching the connection state of a clutch on one side and a clutch on the other side, and is automatically shifted to produce an optional rotational speed and motor torque at which the electric power generation efficiency becomes high at the time of regeneration control of the motor.

Hybrid vehicle driving device

A hybrid saddle-type vehicle is provided with a power transmission mechanism for transmitting a power of an internal combustion engine to a drive shaft of a rear wheel from one side of a swing arm in a widthwise direction of a vehicle, and an electric motor disposed in the other side in the widthwise direction and for transmit a driving force from the other side in the widthwise direction. A motor housing of the electric motor is supported on an extension portion extending in the other side in the widthwise direction from a portion of the drive shaft to which the rear wheel is mounted, via a pair of bearing sections disposed on both sides of the motor housing in the widthwise direction. The rotor is rotatably supported by the drive shaft between the pair of the bearing sections.

Hybrid saddle-type vehicle

A hybrid vehicle includes an engine; a motor; a power transmission mechanism and an oil pump for lubricating the engine and the power transmission mechanism with the rotation of a crankshaft. The oil pump has an oil pump shaft with an oil pump driven gear on one end thereof through a one-way clutch and an oil pump driven sprocket on the other end of the oil pump shaft through a one-way clutch. The oil pump driven gear is connected to a primary drive gear rotating integrally with a motor driven gear for transmitting the power of the motor to the drive wheel. The oil pump driven sprocket is connected to a cam chain of the engine to be rotated by power of the engine. The motor driven gear is disposed on one side of the crankshaft and the cam chain is disposed on the other side of the crankshaft.

A hybrid vehicle in which an electric motor is disposed in the vicinity of a center of a vehicle body to reduce lateral expansion. The hybrid vehicle includes an engine, a motor, and a power transmission mechanism for transmitting power of the engine and the motor to a rear wheel. The engine is suspended on the vehicle body in a non-swingable manner with a cylinder extending in a substantially horizontal direction and a crankshaft provided to be oriented in a vehicle width direction. The electric motor is located in front of and above the crankshaft of the engine.

To reduce the height of a crankcase by arranging a communicating passage in a proper position and to miniaturize an engine in a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine provided with an upper crankcase integrated with a cylinder block or provided separately from the cylinder block on the downside of the cylinder block and a lower crankcase connected to a lower part of the upper crankcase and provided with a communicating passage that communicates with internal spaces of plural crank chambers corresponding to plural cylinders. In the multi-cylinder internal combustion engine, a communicating hole that communicates with the communicating passage is provided on at least either side of the upper crankcase or the lower crankcase, and a cover forming the communicating passage is arranged with the cover covering the communicating hole and is attached to both crankcases across a joined plane of the upper crankcase and the lower crankcase.

Multi-cylinder internal combustion engine

A communicating passage for discharging oil and recovering the oil in an oil pan in a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine wherein the communicating passage enables internal spaces of a plurality of crank chambers corresponding to a plurality of cylinders to communicate is provided to a crankcase. An opening of a drain for discharging oil inside the communicating passage is provided. In addition, the drain for discharging the oil via the opening is provided. The drain is formed to discharge the oil on the side of the oil pan provided to the crankcase.

A piston with transverse-rib through holes formed easily therein for reducing the cost of manufacturing. A piston includes a pair of mutually opposed longitudinal ribs individually formed with piston pin bosses interconnecting a pair of piston skirt portions on a back side of a piston head. A pair of transverse ribs interconnect the mutually opposed longitudinal ribs with the transverse ribs. The pair of transverse ribs are formed with transverse-rib through holes at places proximal to the back side of the piston head. A skirt opening is formed by cutting away a part of the piston skirt portion that is opposed to the transverse rib and faces the transverse-rib through hole.

Piston

A technique for enabling reduction of fuel consumption without greatly changing an engine structure and without impairing a feeling of operation of a vehicle as a motorcycle. An engine includes a crankshaft and a primary gear integrated with the crankshaft that is attached such that the power of the engine is transmitted to a wheel. A one-way clutch transmits the power from the crankshaft to the primary gear but does not transmit the power from the primary gear to the crankshaft. The one-way clutch is provided between the crankshaft and the primary gear with a regenerative brake motor being provided on the primary gear. The engine is non-swingable mounted on the vehicle body with a cylinder extending in a substantially horizontal direction and a crankshaft provided to be oriented in a vehicle width direction. An electric motor is located in front of and above the crankshaft of the engine.

Vehicle

After an enginehas started to operate, a state in which a humidity represented by an output of a humidity sensordownstream of a hydrocarbon adsorbenttakes a minimum value is sequentially searched for, and a timing at which the humidity changes from the minimum value to a monotonously increasing state is grasped as a timing at which the adsorption of moisture and hydrocarbons by the hydrocarbon adsorbentis saturated. After the engine has started to operate, a parameter representing an integrated amount of moisture given to the hydrocarbon adsorbentby the exhaust gas is sequentially generated, and a deteriorated state of the hydrocarbon adsorbentis evaluated based on the value of the parameter at the timing at which the adsorption is saturated. The deteriorated state of the hydrocarbon absorbent can thus accurately be evaluated by an inexpensive arrangement which employs the humidity sensordisposed downstream of the hydrocarbon adsorbent

Deteriorated state evaluation device of exhaust emission control equipment

A humidity sensor is disposed near an HC adsorbent in an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine. After the internal combustion engine is shut off, it is detected whether or not the humidity sensor has failed based on the value of the humidity detected by the humidity sensor when the detected value of the humidity is substantially constant, by determining whether or not the detected value of the humidity falls in a range between upper and lower limit thresholds that are set depending on the temperature near the HC adsorbent. It is stably and easily detected whether or not the humidity sensor disposed near the HC adsorbent in the exhaust system of the internal combustion engine has failed.

Method of detecting failure of humidity sensor

An exhaust gas valve device in an internal combustion engine, including a first bearing member mounted between a valve shaft and a valve body with one end of the valve shaft turnably fitted into the first bearing member, a second bearing member mounted between the valve shaft and the valve body with the other end of the valve shaft turnably passed through the second bearing member, and an actuator connected to the other end of the valve shaft protruding from the second bearing member. The valve body, the valve shaft and the first and second bearing members are formed of metal materials having equivalent thermal expansion coefficients; the first and second bearing members are press-fitted into said valve body; and a skin of a graphite-based solid lubricant is formed on a surface of the valve shaft in regions corresponding to the first and second bearing members. The concentricity accuracy of the pair of bearing members supporting the opposite ends of the valve shaft is enhanced, while avoiding an increase in the number of parts, thereby preventing the generation of noise and reducing the friction.

Exhaust gas valve device in internal combustion engine

An exhaust gas purification system of internal combustion engine having a branch pipe coupled to the exhaust pipe through a flange and having a first cylindrical case constituting a bypass exhaust gas passage and a second cylindrical case constituting a main exhaust gas passage, whose flow are switched by a switch-over valve by selectively connecting the exhaust pipe to the main exhaust gas passage or the bypass exhaust gas passage, and an adsorbent installed in the bypass exhaust gas passage for adsorbing unburned components of the exhaust gas. The unburned exhaust gas components are recirculated to the air intake system through an EGR pipe. In the system, an inlet of the EGR pipe is formed integrally with the branch pipe flange, thereby enabling to prevent increase in fabrication step and cost and further to facilitate maintenance. Moreover, the first cylindrical case is made displace relative to the second cylindrical case. This can prevent the deformation due to the thermal stress which could occur when they are different in temperature.
