A highly sensitive positively charged type electrophotographic photoconductor includes an organic compound that transports electrons efficiently, improving light emission efficiency. The photoconductor is used in an electrophotographic drum, an electrophotographic cartridge and an electrophotographic apparatus. The photosensitive layer includes at least one compound represented by the following general formula (I)wherein each of R, R, Rand R, is independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen atoms, alkyl groups having 1-6 carbon atoms that optionally have substituents and aryl groups that optionally have substituents, each of Rand Ris independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen atoms, alkyl groups having 1-6 carbon atoms that optionally have substituents, aryl groups that optionally have substituents and heterocyclic groups that optionally have substituents, Ris selected from the group consisting of halogen atoms, alkyl groups having 1-6 carbon atoms that optionally have substituents, aryl groups that optionally have substituents and heterocyclic groups that optionally have substituents, m represents an integer of 0 to 2 and a plurality of Rs are the same or different, the substituents being selected from a group consisting of halogen atoms, alkyl groups having 1-6 carbon atoms, alkoxy groups having 1-6 carbon atoms, aryl groups, and heterocyclic groups.

Photoconductor for electrophotography and quinomethane compound

An electrophotographic photoreceptor has excellent electrical properties and is stable even upon repeated use. An electrophotographic apparatus using the electrophotographic photoreceptor uses a compound having an excellent electron transporting ability in a photosensitive layer of the electrophotographic photoreceptor. An electrophotographic photoreceptor, in which a photosensitive layer is located on an electrically conductive substrate either directly or via an undercoat layer, contains a compound having a structure represented by the general formula (I).An electrophotographic apparatus contains the above-mentioned electrophotographic photoreceptor, and carries out a charging process through a positive charging process.

A biphenyl derivative is included in a photosensitive layer of an electrophotographic photoconductor. The electrophotographic photoconductor includes a single-layer photosensitive layer coated on a conductive substrate. The photosensitive layer includes a resin binder, a charge generation substance, a hole transport substance, and an electron transport substance. An electrophotographic apparatus using such an electrophotographic photoconductor has excellent electrical characteristics in a positive chargine system and is stable in repeated use.

In a electrophotographic photoconductor having a single layer type photosensitive layer,laminated directly or through an undercoat layer,on an electroconductive substrate,, the single layer type photosensitive layer,contains at least a resin binder, a charge generating substance, a hole transfer substance and an electron transfer substance, wherein the hole transfer substance is a compound represented by the general formula (HT1) shown below and an electrophotographic apparatus comprise this photoconductor. This electrophotographic photoconductor has good electric property in positive charge and good stability in repeated use.

An organic electrophotographic photoconductor diminished in an image trouble due to history of a transfer process in a reversal development system is disclosed. The above organic electrophotographic photoconductor is called a separated-function laminated type organic electrophotographic photoconductor, which has an undercoat layer and a photosensitive layer laminated in this order on a conductive substrate, the photosensitive layer comprising a charge generation layer laminated on the undercoat layer and containing an organic compound, and a charge transport layer laminated on the charge generation layer and containing an organic compound. For the charge generation layer, a titanyloxyphthalocyanine compound is used as a charge generation material. The present invention uses the titanyloxyphthalocyanine compound having a clear diffraction peak at a Bragg angle (2.theta.) of 9.6.degree..+-.0.2.degree. or 27.3.degree..+-.0.2.degree. for CuK.alpha. characteristic X-ray (wavelength 1.541 .ANG.). For the charge transport layer, a specific organic compound is used as a charge transport material.

An electrophotographic photoconductor is provided which principally consists of an electrically conductive substrate, a charge generation layer, and a charge transport layer which contains an orange dye compound. Preferably, the orange dye compound is selected from the group consisting of 1-o-tolylazo-2-naphthol, 5-(9-anthracenyl methylene) amino-3-methyl-1-tolylpyrazole, 4,5-diiodo-3,6-fluoranediol, and 4,5-dibromo-3,6-fluoranediol.

A titanyloxyphthalocyanine crystal to be used as a charge generation material for an electrophotographic photoreceptor, having a maximum diffraction intensity observed at Bragg angle (2 .theta.) of 9.6.degree..+-.0.2.degree. and clear peaks of diffraction intensity observed at 7.22.degree..+-.0.2.degree., 9.60.degree..+-.0.2.degree., 11.60.degree..+-.0.2.degree., 13.40.degree..+-.0.2.degree., 14.88.degree..+-.0.2.degree.,18.34.degree..+-.0.2.degree., 23.62.degree..+-.0.2.degree., 24.14.degree..+-.0.2.degree., and 27.32.degree..+-.0.2.degree., respectively, in an X-ray diffraction spectrum obtained by performing an x-ray diffraction method using CuK.alpha. as a source of radiation. A method for preparing the crystal includes dispersing a predetermined amount of amorphous titanyloxyphthalocyanine in an aqueous solution in which ionic substances are dissolved, under mechanical force at a temperature of under 50.degree. C., to obtain a mixture composed of a fine dispersion of titanyloxyphthalocyanine; adding a non-aqueous organic solvent to the mixture to shift the fine dispersion of titanyloxyphthalocyanine from an aqueous phase to a non-aqueous organic solvent phase; and removing the non-aqueous organic solvent phase to obtain a pellet of titanyloxyphthalocyanine crystal.
