A gas separation apparatus includes a gas supply part and a zeolite membrane. The gas supply part supplies a mixed gas at a pressure greater than or equal to 10 atm and less than or equal to 200 atm. The mixed gas contains at least CH, CO, and N. A water content of the mixed gas is made less than or equal to 3000 ppm. The zeolite membrane allows COand Nin the mixed gas to permeate therethrough, to thereby separate COand Nfrom CH. The zeolite membrane is made of zeolite. The zeolite contains Al. A ratio of alkali metal to whole framework elements in the zeolite is less than or equal to 6.0 mol %. An amount of substance of the alkali metal in the zeolite is less than an amount of substance of Al.

The separation membrane includes a first zeolite membrane that faces the permeation side space and is constituted by a first zeolite and a second zeolite membrane that faces the supply side space and is adjacent to the first zeolite membrane. The second zeolite membrane is constituted by a second zeolite that has the same framework structure as framework of the first zeolite and has a lower Si/Al atom ratio than a Si/Al atom ratio of the first zeolite.

A zeolite membrane complex includes a longitudinal support member having at least one through hole extending along its length and a zeolite membrane on an inner peripheral surface of the through hole or over an outer peripheral surface of the support, from one end portion of the support to the other end portion thereof. Among constituent elements of the zeolite membrane except oxygen, an element with the highest percentage is a main element, and when the concentration of the main element is measured at three portions defined by dividing the support into three equal parts in the longitudinal direction, the concentration of the main element gradually decreases from the one end portion toward the other end portion, and the ratio of the concentration of the main element at the other end portion to that at the one end portion is 0.90 or more.

A gas separator includes a separation membrane complex in which a separation membrane with pores having a mean pore diameter less than or equal to 1 nm is formed on a porous support, and a gas supply part that supplies a mixed gas including COand another gas from the side of the separation membrane to the separation membrane complex. A porous cylindrical support for use in supporting a zeolite membrane has a generally cylindrical inside surface having a central axis extending in the longitudinal direction and a generally cylindrical outside surface that surrounds the inside surface. A zeolite membrane is formed on the outside surface. A maximum value A and a minimum value B of a support thickness in a circumferential direction satisfy (A−B)/(A+B)≤0.3 in at least part of the support in the longitudinal direction, the support thickness being a radial distance between the inside surface and the outside surface. By reducing a variation in support thickness, it is possible to improve uniformity in the thickness of the zeolite membrane formed on the support.

A housing of a separation apparatus includes therein a zeolite membrane complex. A sheath includes therein the housing. A fluid supplied to the inside of the housing has a temperature higher than the temperature around the sheath. A second exhaust port is used to exhaust a permeated substance that has permeated through the zeolite membrane complex in the fluid to the outside of the housing. The permeated substance exhausted from the housing can be led into an exterior space between the sheath and the housing through the second exhaust port and can be exhausted through an exterior exhaust port. At least part of the zeolite membrane complex is included in an inter-port space surrounded by the sheath, the second exhaust port, and the exterior exhaust port. This structure reduces energy required for fluid separation performed under high temperatures.

A drying method for a separation membrane includes supplying a gas for drying to the separation membrane so that a value obtained by dividing the difference between a maximum value and a minimum value of a flow rate of the gas for drying on a membrane surface of the separation membrane by the minimum value of the flow rate is less than or equal to 15%. A repair method for a separation membrane including a step of applying a colloidal solution to a surface of a separation membrane formed on a support. The colloidal solution has a predetermined pH. In colloidal solution, repair material particles are dispersed in an aqueous solvent.
