A sewing machine includes a needle bar base, a support shaft, an adjustment member, and an urging portion. The needle bar base has a through hole on an upper end portion. The support shaft is inserted through the through hole and pivotably supports the needle bar base. The support shaft includes a leading end portion. The leading end portion includes a first screw portion. The adjustment member is provided on the support shaft and is configured to move along an axial direction of the support shaft. The adjustment member includes a second screw portion and a first contact portion. The second screw portion is screwed into the first screw portion. The first contact portion is in contact with the needle bar base. The urging portion urges the needle bar base toward the first contact portion of the adjustment member.

A sewing machine includes a needle bar, a needle bar base, a base frame, a guide member, and a fixing member. A sewing needle is attachable to a lower end portion of the needle bar. The needle bar base is configured to support the needle bar to allow the needle bar to be moved in an up-down direction. A first engagement portion is provided to a lower end portion of the needle bar base. The base frame is configured to swingably support an upper end portion of the needle bar base. A second engagement portion is provided to a lower end portion the base frame. A guide member includes a third engagement portion configured to engage with the first engagement portion and guide movement of the first engagement portion in a predetermined direction and a fourth engagement portion configured to engage with the second engagement portion.

A horizontal rotary hook of a sewing machine includes an inner rotary hook made of synthetic resin and housing a bobbin, an outer rotary hook made of synthetic resin and housing the inner rotary hook and rotated in a predetermined direction, an adsorption plate made of a magnetic material and mounted on one of an outer surface of a bottom wall of the inner rotary hook and an inner surface of a bottom wall of the outer rotary hook, a magnet piece formed as a thin plate and mounted in the other of the outer surface of the bottom wall of the inner rotary hook and the inner surface of the bottom wall of the outer rotary hook, and a yoke member made of a magnetic material and housing the magnet piece integrally formed with a bottom wall contacting the magnet piece and a wall surrounding an outer circumferential side of the magnet piece. The yoke member is mounted on the other of the outer surface of the bottom wall of the inner rotary hook and the inner surface of the bottom wall of the outer rotary hook.

Silicon nitride base sintered body consists of: 1 to 20 wt % (as oxides) of at least one of rare earth elements; 0.5 to 8 wt % of V (as V.sub.2 O.sub.5); 0.5 to 8 wt % (as oxides) of at least one of Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo and W; sum of the Va and VIa group elements according to the Periodic Table of the International Version (as oxides) being 1 to 10 wt %; and balance silicon nitride. It has high strength of 690-880 MPa (70-90 kgf/mm.sup.2) and high oxidation resistance both at 1350.degree. C. It is produced by 2 stage gas-pressure sintering in pressurized N.sub.2 atmosphere, primarily at 1700.degree.-1900.degree. C. at 1 MPa (10 atm) or less and secondarily at 1600.degree.-1900 C. at 10 MPa (100 atm) or above.

Silicon nitride sintered body and method for producing same

A sintered body of silicon nitride with high density, strength, toughness, and hardness, which can be used for a structural part of an engine, etc. The sintered body of the invention includes 80 to 94 wt % Si.sub.3 N.sub.4, 2 to 10 wt % Mg compound calculated in MgO equivlent, and 2 to 10 wt % Y compound calculated in Y.sub.2 O.sub.3 equivalent. The Si.sub.3 N.sub.4 contains 5 to 40% .alpha.-phase. The sintered body is manufactured in the following steps: (a) mixing powdery Si.sub.3 N.sub.4 with a Mg compound and a Y compound in the above proportions, and then molding the mixture in which the Si.sub.3 N.sub.4 powder contains 80% or more .alpha.-phase and its grains are 1 .mu.m or less in diameter on average; (b) performing primary sintering at 1,600.degree. C. or less in an atmospher of nitrogen or of an inert gas at 20 atm or less; and (c) performing secondary sintering at 1,400.degree. to 1,600.degree. C. in an atmosphere of nitrogen or of an inert gas at 300 atm or more.

Sintered body of silicon nitride and its manufacture

A sintered silicon nitride product comprises from 72 to 98% by weight of silicon nitride, from 1 to 8% by weight of vanadium pentoxide, and from 1 to 20% by weight of one or more oxides of rare earth elements. The vanadium pentoxide and the oxide of rare earth elements accelerate the densification of the sintered product, and provide high strength at high temperature as well as excellent oxidation resistance to the sintered product.
