An airplane fuel supply system includes a wing fuel tank that is formed from a wing tip fuel tank having a wing tip fuel pump; a central fuel tank having a central fuel pump; and a wing root fuel tank having a wing root fuel pump. Fuel movement from the wing tip fuel tank to the central fuel tank is allowed by a flapper valve, and fuel movement from the central fuel tank to the wing root fuel tank is allowed by another flapper valve. When the fuel delivery volume of the wing tip fuel pump is represented by Vt, the fuel delivery volume of the central fuel pump is represented by Vc, the fuel delivery volume of the wing root fuel pump is represented by Vr, and the fuel delivery volume from a collector tank to the engine is represented by Ve, the fuel delivery volumes Vt, Vc, Vr, and Ve are set so as to satisfy the relationships Vr>Ve, Vt&plus;Vc>Ve, and Vc<Ve. This can minimize the size of the fuel pumps for supplying fuel from the airplane wing fuel tank to the engine.

Airplane fuel supply system and airplane wing pipeline assembly method

An engine has a cylinder block having a vertical array of cylinders, a crankcase joined to one side of the cylinder block, a cylinder head joined to an opposite side of the cylinder block, pistons reciprocally movable in the cylinders, a crankshaft vertically extending through the engine block and rotatably supported in the cylinder block and the crankcase, the crankcase having couterweights, connecting rods interconnecting the pistons and the crankshaft, and a balancer mechanism coacting with the crankshaft. The balancer mechanism is disposed upwardly of the cylinder block and accommodated in a balancer housing projecting from upper surfaces of the cylinder block and the crankcase. The balancer mechanism comprises a driver gear mounted on the crankshaft, first and second balancer shafts extending parallel to the crankshaft, and first and second balancers mounted respectively on the first and second balancer shafts and operatively coupled to the driver gear. The first and second balancers are disposed on diametrically opposite sides of the driver gear and arranged such that a line interconnecting the centers of the first and second balancers is inclined with respect to an axis of the cylinder block.

Engine with a balancer mechanism

Disclosed is a V-type vertical engine which is particularly advantageous for use as an outboard marine engine. This engine typically comprises a crank shaft extending vertically; a pair of cylinder banks; intake ports which are located adjacent to the internal sides of the cylinder banks; intake tubes which are connected to the intake ports and, at least in part thereof, extend along a central line between the two cylinder banks away from a crank shaft of the engine; a carburetor unit including at least one carburetor having a pair of intake passages which communicate with the intake ports belonging to different ones of the cylinder banks and a single float chamber which is common to both the intake passages; exhaust ports which are located adjacent to the external sides of the cylinder banks; and exhaust passages which, at least in part thereof, extend along a cylinder axial line towards the crank case. The cooling water for the engine is introduced into the water jackets of the cylinder block and the cylinder heads from the bottom end of the engine and expelled from the top ends of the cylinder banks by way of a pair of tubes which are joined into a thermostat valve chamber. The thermostat chamber is further connected to a central conduit which extends vertically between the two cylinder banks and conducts the cooling water from the thermostat chamber to the surrounding water.
