A mechanism for an ADF having upper and lower trays, a base connecting the trays, and a cover pivotally connected to the upper tray includes a housing provided within the base and movable relative thereto. A transmission has a gripping position for transporting paper along a path from the upper tray to the lower tray and a release position allowing a paper jam along the path to be remedied. The cover is pivotable between a first condition maintaining the transmission in the gripping position and a second condition allowing the housing to move relative to the trays to place the transmission in the release position.

Paper feeding mechanism

One example includes a device that is comprised of a cover housing, a reflective sheet, a coupler, and a fastener. The reflective sheet may hold media against a planar transparent scanning area of the device. The coupler may removably attach the reflective sheet to the cover housing, the coupler having a resilient member to exert an axial restoring force between the reflective sheet and the cover housing. The fastener may fix the coupler to the reflective sheet.

Reflective sheet coupling

A method of making and using a printer comprising a duplexing unit that pivots along a horizontal plane for media path access. The duplexing unit does not contain any motor driven rollers for moving a media sheet therethrough. The duplexing unit's vertical axis hinge allows the duplexing unit to swing open and closed horizontally.

An automatic document feeding device including a pick motor coupled with a pick assembly, a deskew motor coupled with a deskew assembly, a sensor assembly coupled with a main media path and the deskew motor, and a feed motor coupled with a feed assembly. The deskew motor drives the deskew assembly, the deskew assembly deskewing the media sheet and moving the media sheet from the pick assembly to the feed assembly, the deskew assembly moving independently of the pick assembly and the feed assembly. The sensor assembly includes a plurality of sensors. The sensor assembly senses the media sheet moving along the main media path and sends at least one signal to a computer. The computer, based on the at least one signal, sends, an activation signal to at least one of the pick, deskew and feed motors and the first scanner.

Automatic document feeder

A pivotable duplexing unit is attached to the wall of a printer using a hinge having an axis that is substantially perpendicular to the base. A latch and catch holds the pivotable duplexing unit in a closed position relative to the wall of the printing apparatus. The wall includes a support member for the hinge, and the pivotable duplexing unit further includes a pin for pivoting in a support member of the hinge. The support member includes a bearing surface that is substantially parallel to the base. The pin member includes an end that makes pivotable contact with the bearing surface.

An automatic document feeder with a drive system that can efficiently handle double-side scanning and accommodate more than one timing sequence for sequentially picking individual sheets from a stack using only two motors&#x2014;a pick motor and a media motor. The automatic document feeder includes a pickup unit with a pick roller, a set of de-skew rollers, a main media path configured to guide a media sheet from the pickup unit to a scanning region and from the scanning region to an output tray, and a switch-back path configured to guide the media sheet back into the main media path. The drive system is operable to provide a high-speed picking mode and a delayed picking mode. In the high-speed picking mode, the pickup unit is driven by the pick motor to pull a subsequent media sheet from a stack of media sheet as soon as a previously pulled media sheet has passed the pick roller. In the delayed picking mode, the de-skew rollers are driven by the pick motor to advance the media sheet toward the scanning region and the subsequent media sheet is pulled from the stack by the pickup unit when the previously pulled media sheet has passed the de-skewed rollers.

An upper piggybacked unit of a tandem unit is provided with a hinge unit and at least one motion lock to prevent the upper unit from falling away from the lower unit when it is tandemly coupled to the lower unit and the lower unit is pivoted to a non-horizontal position. The motion lock may inhibit rotation and/or translation of the upper unit. The motion lock may also be self-actuating, such as a gravity dependent lock mechanism. A lock override mechanism may be provided to allow the lock to yield to excessive force without causing damage. The lock enable condition may be automatically reset after the override condition so that no special knowledge or action on the part of the user is required to return the hinge to normal operation. The motion locks are particularly useful when provided on a reprographic device, such as a copier, facsimile, printer or malfunction device having an upper unit that forms a sheet feeder unit, a lower unit that forms a scan housing, and a fixed base below the lower unit that may contain a marking engine.

Hinge with tandem pivot structure motion lock and override

A media path control device has two sets of parallel arms with opposing rollers to manipulate the movement of print media. The arms are moveable in a substantially vertical plane through motors. The arms can be of different lengths to establish an optimal trajectory or height of the media to change the trajectory or travel path of the media. The rollers are reversible to change the trajectory or travel path of the media. Rotation of the arms may be stopped at various points along their travel arc to position the media at a desired or plane.

Media path direction control device and method of reversing a media path

A high-speed printer is provided. The printer includes a media assembly for supporting a media roll that supplies the sheet of media and also for controlling a flow rate of the sheet of media through the printer. The sheet of media is received by the feedback control system, which is used to detect a slack position of the sheet of media. The slack position is used by the media assembly to determine a flow rate of the sheet of media through the printer. In addition, the printer also includes a roller system for receiving the sheet of material from the feedback control system and to feed the sheet of media to a print carriage.

Overall system design and layout of an on-demand label/tag printer using inkjet technology

A system and a method for servicing a printhead using a low-height service station design. The system of the present invention includes a low-height service station having a gear and clutch arrangement that permits a service station drive assembly and a print media feed assembly to use the same motor. By momentarily reversing the motor, the gear and clutch arrangement permits the service station drive assembly to be engaged and the print media feed assembly to be disengaged, or vice versa. Moreover, the gear and clutch arrangement provides a means for a capping platform and a wiping platform within the service station to move independently of each other.

Low-height ink jet service station

An indexing service station services interchangeable first and second inkjet cartridges when installed with a third inkjet cartridge in a dual-cartridge carriage of an inkjet printing mechanism. For printing graphics and text, the first cartridge usually prints black ink, while the third cartridge prints full-colorant concentrations of colored ink. For printing photographic type images, the black cartridge for printing text is replaced with the second cartridge which is an imaging cartridge. The imaging cartridge carries ink formulations having reduced colorant concentrations, which, when used in conjunction with the full color cartridge, provide near photographic image quality, as well as crisp black text and line art. The service station has three separate sets of servicing tools for independent servicing of the black, full color, and imaging cartridges. The full color servicing tools are mounted on a singular tumbler assembly, whereas both the black and imaging cartridge servicing tools; are mounted on a combination tumbler assembly, with both tumbler assemblies being driven by an indexing gear assembly. Leaf springs bias printhead wipers away from the tumbler assemblies, with translational and torsional spring flexure accommodating for any lack of parallelism between the printheads and their associated wipers. A method is also provided of servicing the black, full color, and imaging cartridges when installed in the printing mechanism.
