Methods and apparatuses for detection of probing attacks or other tampering on any bus, including on chip and off chip buses. The method can be performed during runtime, concurrently with normal data transfer on the bus, without stopping the normal data transfer, and without imposing any latency to communications on the bus. The tampering or attack is detected by detecting a phase shift between the input waveform and the output waveform of the bus transmitter. The phase shift is induced by an input impedance change at the output of the bus transmitter caused by the tampering. The phase shift can be measured by detecting a change in the output probability of a metastable flip flop.

Method and apparatus for runtime detection of bus probing/tampering in computer systems

Method and apparatus for detecting in impedance change in a transmission line, such as a line in a computer bus. A CMOS-compatible time domain reflectometer circuit comprising a comparator is embedded in one or more chips and connected to the transmission line. The circuit measures the impedance inhomogeneity pattern (IIP) of the transmission line prior to use, and then repeatedly measures the HP during operation of the transmission line to detect a change in IIP, without Interfering with data transfer through the transmission line. The present invention can detect and locate wire-tapping magnetic probing or snooping, and Trojan and cold boot attacks on interconnecting buses between computer chips or integrated circuits in a computer system, such as on external memory buses.

An approach for fingerprinting large data objects at the wire speed has been disclosed. The techniques include Fresh/Shift pipelining, split Fresh, optimization, online channel sampling, and pipelined selection. The architecture can also be replicated to work in parallel for higher system throughput. Fingerprinting may provide an efficient mechanism for identifying duplication in a data stream, and deduplication based on the identified fingerprints may provide reduced storage costs, reduced network bandwidth consumption, reduced processing time and other benefits. In some embodiments, fingerprinting may be used to ensure or verify data integrity and may facilitate detection of corruption or tampering. An efficient manner of generating fingerprints (either via hardware, software, or a combination) may reduce a computation load and/or time required to generate fingerprints.

The present disclosure relates to systems, methods, and computer program products for keeping multiple caches updated, or coherent, on multiple servers when the multiple caches contain independent copies of cached data. Example methods may include receiving a request to write data to a block of a first cache associated with a first server in a clustered server environment. The methods may also include identifying a second cache storing a copy of the block, where the second cache is associated with a second server in the clustered environment. The methods may further include transmitting a request to update the second cache with the received write data, and upon receiving a subsequent request to write subsequent data, identifying a third cache for invalidating based on access patterns of the blocks, where the third cache is associated with a third server in the clustered environment.

The embodiments disclosed herein provide a flash aware snapshot technique for two-way data recovery and back-in-time execution. The disclosed snapshot technique is designed to reduce the number of write operations to improve the performance on flash-based storage systems. The disclosed snapshot technique can guarantee data recovery no matter which of the production site or the backup site fails. The disclosed snapshot technique can also reduce the storage space requirement for snapshots by exploiting content locality. Furthermore, the disclosed snapshot technique can be implemented using hardware, software, firmware, or any combination of them. In case of hardware implementation, only minor hardware modifications are needed.

A method dramatically reduces the amount of data to be stored and transferred in a networked storage system. Preferably, the network storage system provides continued data protection through mirroring/replication, disk-to-disk backup, data archiving for future retrieval, and Information Lifecycle management (ILM). The idea is to leverage the parity computation that exists in RAID systems. By caching, transferring, and storing data parity or delta bytes of changes on a block as opposed to data block itself, substantial data reduction is possible without using sophisticated compression algorithms at the production side to minimize performance impacts upon production servers. Data can be computed using the parity/delta and previously existing data at mirror side, replication side, backup storage, or at retrieval time upon events such as failures or ILM operations.

Featured is a data storage back-up system for replication, mirroring and/or backing-up data including one or more first and second data storage devices that embody iSCSI, FC or alike principals and that are operably coupled to each other preferably via a WAN. The first data storage device is configured and arranged so there are two writes of data, one write to a persistent storage device from which reads are done and another write to a SAPS device wherein the data is saved using log-structured file system (LSF) techniques. After saving data to the First storage device, the data logs in the SAPS device are communicated to the second data storage device whereat a de-staging process is conducted so as to de-stage the data logs and write the de-staged data to a persistent storage device in the second data storage device.
