An organic EL element () according to the present invention is such that a positive and negative charge transport layer () is interposed between a cathode () and an anode (). The positive and negative charge transport layer () is composed of a single host material and has a light-emitting region () which is doped with a light-emitting dopant. The positive and negative charge transport layer () further has at least one of the following blocking regions: an electron blocking region (), provided closer to the anode () than the light-emitting region (), having a lowest unoccupied molecular orbital lower than that of the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital of the light-emitting region (); and a hole blocking region (), provided closer to the cathode () than the light-emitting region (), having a highest occupied molecular orbital higher than that of the highest occupied molecular orbital of the light-emitting region ().

Organic electroluminescent element, method for manufacturing same, and organic electroluminescent display device

Provided are an image display device in which a desired number of panels are combined so that a large light-emitting surface is realized, a panel provided in the image display device, and a method for manufacturing the panel. For this purpose, a panel () of the present invention includes a rectangular light-emitting section (); a substrate () having a flat surface (') on which the rectangular light-emitting section () is provided and a curved adjacent surface (&#x2032;) that is adjacent to one of edge portions of the flat surface which extend along long sides of the rectangular light-emitting section (); and a terminal group that is drawn out from a long side of the rectangular light-emitting section () and that is disposed in the adjacent surface. The panels () are connected to each other by linking edge portions of the flat surfaces (&#x2032;) of the respective substrates () so that longitudinal directions of the respective rectangular display sections () are parallel to each other and so that the adjacent surface (&#x2032;) is located on the back side of the substrate (). In an image display section, pixels () are arranged in a matrix, and sub-pixels in each of the pixels () are aligned in a column direction of the matrix.

Image display device, panel and panel manufacturing method

An organic EL element () includes a light emitting layer () which has a two-layer structure, and a first light-emitting layer () is made from a host material which includes LUMO shallower than (i) LUMO () of a phosphorescent light emitting material and (ii) LUMO of a host material, from which a second light-emitting layer () is made. Further, the second light-emitting layer () is made from a host material which includes HOMO deeper than (i) HOMO () of the phosphorescent light emitting material and (ii) HOMO of the host material, from which the first light-emitting layer () is made. This makes it possible (i) to block holes from moving to the second light-emitting layer () and (ii) to block electrons from moving to the first light-emitting layer (). As a result, a probability that the holes and the respective electrons recombine with each other is increased. It is therefore possible to reduce a driving voltage of an organic EL element (). This improves light emitting efficiency.

Organic electroluminescence element, manufacturing method thereof, and organic electroluminescence display device

An organic EL element () includes a three-layer-structured light-emitting layer (). A first light-emitting layer () is made of a host material higher in HOMO than an organic light-emitting material (|HOMO (host material for first light-emitting layer)|&#x3e;|HOMO (phosphorescence-emitting material)|). A second light-emitting layer () is made of a host material lower in LUMO than the organic light-emitting material (|LUMO (host material for second light-emitting layer) |&#x3c;|LUMO (phosphorescence-emitting material)|). A third light-emitting layer () is made of a material higher in HOMO and lower in LUMO than the organic light-emitting material (|HOMO (host material for third light-emitting layer)|&#x3e;|HOMO (phosphorescence-emitting material)|, |LUMO (host material for third light-emitting layer)|&#x3c;|LUMO (phosphorescence-emitting material)|). This ensures transferring holes and electrons to the third light-emitting layer (). Consequently, a recombination ratio between holes and electrons increases, a voltage for driving the organic EL element () decreases, and light-emitting efficiency increases.

An organic electroluminescent display device () includes: a substrate (); a first electrode () which is provided on the substrate (), and in which at least a surface portion located on an opposite side from the substrate () is made of silver or silver alloy; and an organic electroluminescent layer () provided on the first electrode ().

Organic electroluminescent display device and manufacturing method thereof

A light-emitting element of the present invention includes (i) a light-emitting layer (), (ii) an electrode layer () being transparent to part of light emitted from the light-emitting layer (), (iii) color converting layers (), and (iv) a transparent layer (). The color converting layers () and the transparent layer () sandwich the transparent electrode layer () with the light-emitting layer (). The color converting layers () and the transparent electrode layer () contain particles () expressing a surface plasmon phenomenon, respectively.

The present invention includes: a reflective electrode (); a translucent electrode (); an organic EL layer () for emitting blue light, the organic EL layer being sandwiched between the reflective electrode and the translucent electrode; a red fluorescent substance layer () for converting the light from the organic EL layer () into red light; a green fluorescent substance layer () for converting the light from the organic EL layer () into green light; and a blue pixel including a light-distribution-characteristic adjusting layer () for adjusting a light distribution characteristic of the light from the organic EL layer (), the present invention being structured such that the reflective electrode () and the translucent electrode () produce a microcavity effect.

Panel () of the present invention includes substrate () having flat surface () having rectangular display section (), and adjacent surface () curved from an edge part of surface () in the vicinity of a long side of surface (). On surface (), terminals, extending from display section () (in the vicinity of the long side), are arranged. Edge parts of surfaces () of substrates () of adjacent panels () are combined so that longitudinal directions of light-emitting sections () are parallel to each other. Surface () projects on a back surface side of substrate (). It is thus possible to provide a light-emitting panel device realizing a large light-emitting surface by combining a desired number of panels, an image display device including the light-emitting panel device, an illumination device including the light-emitting panel device, a panel in the light-emitting panel device, and a method of producing the panel.

A display device of the present invention includes a red-light-emitting element (), a green-light-emitting element (), and a blue-light-emitting element (). The red-light-emitting element () and the green-light-emitting element () each include an organic EL section () and a color converting layer (). The color converting layer () has an optical distance that extends from (i) a position of the color converting layer from which position light is emitted to (ii) an extraction surface of the color converting layer, the optical distance being varied between the red-light-emitting element () and (). The blue-light-emitting element () may include a film-thickness adjusting layer () instead of the color converting layer ().

One or more illumination panels () are hung by up-and-down cords (). The up-and-down cords () have a function of hanging the illumination panels () and a function of supplying electric power to the illumination panels (). Pulling a rod (), which is a take-up tool causes the up-and-down cords () to be taken up and, at the same time, the bottom rail () and the illumination panels () are also raised. At this time, the up-and-down cords () are taken up into the head box (). As such, when the bottom rail () is raised, the up-and-down cords () are taken up without bending. This makes it possible to distribute stress that may otherwise be concentrated locally on the up-and-down cords (). As a result, the up-and-down cords () can be prevented from getting broken due to deterioration caused by concentration of stress on the up-and-down cords (), which concentration is caused by bending etc. of the up-and-down cords ().
