An image processing apparatus includes a control unit. The control unit performs OCR processing by identifying a specified area of image data as a detection area, detecting line images contained in the detection area, and analyzing the detected line images to identify a character represented by the line images. Furthermore, when failing to identify a character represented by the line images in the OCR processing, the control unit determines whether the line images represent a part of a character and, upon determination that the line images represent a part of a character, expands the detection area in a direction where the other part of the character to be identified is assumed to be present and performs the OCR processing again on the expanded detection area.

The display device includes a mode shift control unit, a storage control unit, and a display control unit. The mode shift control unit performs such control that if a first condition is satisfied in a first mode, a display screen is not displayed and the first mode shifts to a second mode, and that if a second condition is satisfied in the second mode, the display screen is displayed and the second mode shifts to the first mode. An image forming apparatus which includes: a job storage unit for storing a plurality of print jobs; an image forming unit for executing the print jobs stored in the job storage unit; and a job managing unit for managing an execution order of the print jobs performed by the image forming unit. The job managing unit includes: priority job managing portion which, during execution of a specific print job carried out according to an execution order set in advance, manages the image forming unit to suspend the specific print job and preferentially to execute another print job; and job continuation judging portion which, when completing a priority print job that is executed by the priority job managing portion, judges whether or not to continue execution of the specific print job based on a job execution state of the specific print job that is being executed when starting the priority print job.

Special sheets to be handled differently from normal sheets are accommodated in a specific sheet feeding deck such that a predetermined operation or presentation associated with reproduction procedure is permitted or prohibited for the special sheets in the specific sheet feeding deck. For example, if the production of two-sided copies is prohibited for a specific sheet feeding deck which accommodates sheets to be used again, the sheets are not automatically selected during the production of two-sided copies even if they are of the same size as a document original. This ensures erroneous handling is prevented, such as image forming on both sides of the special sheets in the specific sheet feeding deck.
