A liquid-feeding system efficiently transferring liquid from a liquid storage to a liquid chamber and efficiently transferring gas from the liquid chamber to the liquid storage. The liquid-feeding system includes a liquid-using unit, the liquid storage, the liquid chamber in communication with the liquid-using unit, a plurality of communication paths facilitating communication between the liquid chamber and the liquid storage, the liquid chamber having a substantially enclosed space except where the space communicates with the plurality of communication paths and with the liquid-using unit, a pressure regulator disposed in the liquid storage and regulating the internal pressure of the liquid storage, and means for changing an internal pressure of the liquid chamber relatively higher than an internal pressure of the liquid storage.

An jet recording apparatus, which records on a recording medium by discharging ink form a recording head, is provided with at least two electrothermal converting elements each having different amount of heat generation, and driven each individually, which are arranged in the ink flow path communicated with the discharge port of the recording head along the ink flow path each in different distance to the discharge port, and when the pre-discharge is performed without participating in recording, driving signals needed for discharging ink are supplied to the electrothermal converting element on the side near to the discharge port subsequent to being supplied to the electrothermal converting element on the side away from the discharge port. The pre-discharge is performed immediately before recording per line, and the number of discharges is set to be larger for the electrothermal converting element on the side away from the discharge port than the number of discharges for the electrothermal converting element on the side near to the discharge port.

A ink jet recording head has a discharge port forming member, an ink supply member for supplying ink into the discharge port forming member from an ink container, an ink discharge port formed by the discharge port forming member, and discharge pressure generation means for generating a discharge pressure for discharging ink from the discharge port. A discharge port forming face of the discharge port forming member and a face of the ink supply member are substantially coplanarly connected, and a protective member is adhered over both faces. The adhering area of the protective member per unit area of the ink supply member is smaller than that on the discharge port forming face.

An ink jet recording head is provided with a plurality of discharge ports for discharging recording liquid, a discharge port plate having the discharge ports therefor, a liquid chamber for retaining the recording liquid, a plurality of discharge energy generating elements for discharging the recording liquid, a substrate having the plurality of discharge energy generating elements on one surface thereof, and a plurality of liquid flow paths extended in one direction for communicating the liquid chamber and the discharge ports, the liquid flow paths including the discharge energy generating elements therein and having the rectangular sectional configuration. The sectional shape of each of the discharge ports is circular on the end portion thereof on the recording liquid discharge side and the sectional area of the discharge port end portion connected with the liquid flow path being larger than that of the end portion of discharge port on the recording liquid discharge side, and the sectional shape of the discharge port is rectangular, while the discharge port is tapered to change the sectional shape thereof from being rectangular to circular. This ink jet recording head is effective in discharging recording liquid stably at higher speeds to form images in higher precision.

An ink jet recording cartridge mounted on a movable carriage comprises an ink jet recording head for recording by discharging ink from the discharge ports to a recording medium, and a housing for holding the ink jet recording head. For the housing of this cartridge, extrusions are arranged to abut upon the grooved portions arranged for the carriage, and the extrusions are made capable of adjusting the relative positions of the ink jet recording cartridge and the carriage. With the ink jet recording cartridge thus structured, it becomes possible to position the discharge ports of the recording head easily and exactly corresponding to the predetermined position in the carriage. Even if the precision varies when the recording head is installed on the housing of the cartridge, the extrusions are arranged to shift in accordance with such variation to serve the purpose.

According to the present invention, a liquid jet recording head assembly method comprises the steps of assembling a pressing member with a reference member to which an element substrate is fixed, charging a forcing spring provided for the pressing member to obtain a gap through which a grooved top plate can be inserted, assembling, by means of the gap, the grooved top plate with the element, and releasing the charging of the forcing spring and using the force exerted by the forcing spring to press the grooved top plate against the element substrate, so as to secure the grooved top plate to the element substrate.

Liquid jet recording head and assembling method therefor

A method for manufacturing an ink jet recording head involves forming discharge ports by irradiating a laser beam onto a member which becomes the discharge port plate through a mask having specific patterns thereon. The mask includes a transmission section which regulates the shape of the discharge ports, and an attenuation section formed on the outer circumference of the transmission section so that the further the attenuation section is from the transmission, the less the laser beam becomes. This method also involves forming the discharge ports by irradiating the laser beam through the mask to the member, and each port has a cross-sectional shape which gradually tapers from a rectangular shape at a side of the port connected with the liquid flow path to a circular shape at a recording liquid discharge side of the port.

In order to provide a recording apparatus having higher reliability with a low cost and simple construction, a rank heater representative of the characteristics of the recording head is provided, the driving condition therefor is established based on the resistance value of the rank heater, any erroneous mounting of the head is detected by the resistance value, and the recording control is modified by identifying the type of the mounted head. The resistance range exhibited by the rank heater is set different according to the type of the head, so that the different recording heads would not exhibit the same resistance value as each other. The resistance value is detected at the side of the apparatus, being detected whether the recording head is suited for the apparatus. In an apparatus in which a plurality of types of interchangeable heads are used, the invention is effective not only for detection of the head type, but also for detection of characteristics of the recording head.
