A method of manufacturing a ceramic honeycomb structure of the present invention, comprising the steps of: stamping sheets onto opposite end faces of a ceramic honeycomb body having a plurality of cells and formed into a honeycomb shape; drilling holes in the sheets at positions corresponding to opening parts of the cells; filling, through the holes, a slurry for sealing into the opening parts of the cells in the opposite end faces of the ceramic honeycomb body; firing the body; and alternately sealing the opening parts of the cells, characterized by comprising the steps of: forming the ceramic honeycomb body into a shape having at least one reference cell different in the shape of the opening part in the end face from the other cells; and drilling the holes in the sheets at the positions corresponding to the opening parts of the reference cell and the other cells with the reference cell taken as a reference point, whereby the ceramic honeycomb structure thus obtained can be manufactured at a low cost, since the cells to be sealed can be easily distinguished, and the holes can be quickly positioned in the drilling step.

Method of manufacturing ceramic honeycomb structural body, and ceramic honeycomb structural body

A method of manufacturing ceramic bodies having a construction such that cells are alternately sealed at one but not both end surfaces of a ceramic honeycomb structural body by filling a sealing slurry into predetermined cells at both end surfaces of a ceramic honeycomb formed body and sintering the ceramic honeycomb formed body, is performed by: forming a mask for respective ceramic honeycomb formed bodies by arranging a sheet on an end surface of the ceramic honeycomb formed body and piercing holes in the sheet at positions corresponding to the predetermined cells; immersing an end portion of the ceramic honeycomb formed body to which the mask is arranged into the sealing slurry; and filling the sealing slurry into the cells through the holes pierced in the mask.

Method of manufacturing ceramic bodies

An apparatus for cutting green ceramic bodies, includes a traveling path for green ceramic bodies, beds for supporting green ceramic bodies at constant intervals in series along the traveling path, an arm on each side of the traveling path, two drive portions for moving respective arms perpendicularly relative to the traveling path, a drive portion for moving both arms in the same direction as the traveling path, a wire for cutting green ceramic bodies, extending between the arms, and wire supporting portions, on respective arms. Each wire supporting portion includes a servo motor with an axis of rotation, a magnet member around the axis of rotation, a bobbin having a conical surface around which wire is wound, and magnetically coupled to the axis of rotation by the magnet member, and a traversing mechanism for varying the position where the wire is wound around the length of the conical surface.

A high strength zirconia ceramic composition consisting essentially of a compound of ZrO.sub.2 containing less than 5.0 mol % Y.sub.2 O.sub.3 as a stabilizer and further containing 1-30 wt % aluminum and magnesium contents to the amount of the compound of ZrO.sub.2 in terms of Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 and MgO. In the case that the compound of ZrO.sub.2 further contains CeO.sub.2 as a stabilizer, the total amount of Y.sub.2 O.sub.3 and CeO.sub.2 is determined to be 1.0-15 mol % to the amount of the compound of ZrO.sub.2.
