Example embodiments relate to light detection and ranging (lidar) devices having a light-guide manifold. An example lidar device includes a transmit subsystem. The transmit subsystem includes a light emitter. The transmit subsystem also includes a light-guide manifold optically coupled to the light emitter. Further, the transmit subsystem includes a telecentric lens assembly optically coupled to the light-guide manifold. The lidar device also includes a receive subsystem. The receive subsystem includes the telecentric lens assembly. The receive subsystem also includes an aperture plate having an aperture defined therein. The aperture plate is positioned at a focal plane of the telecentric lens assembly. Further, the receive subsystem includes a silicon photomultiplier (SiPM) positioned to receive light traveling through the aperture.

An example device includes a mounting structure including a first material having a first coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE). The mounting structure includes a center portion and an outer portion. The device further includes a magnetic core for an electrical component that is coupled to the outer portion of the mounting structure. The magnetic core includes a second material having a second CTE. The magnetic core is split into a plurality of sections separated by spaces extending from the center portion to an outer edge of the outer portion. Each of the plurality of sections is separately coupled to the mounting structure, and each of the plurality of sections is connected to the electrical component.

A rotary joint includes a shaft having a first end, a second end, and a cavity. The rotary joint includes a first waveguide section having a first proximal end and a first distal end. The first proximal end of the first waveguide section is positioned within the cavity and secured to the inner surface of the shaft. The rotary joint includes a second waveguide section that includes a second proximal end and a second distal end. The second proximal end of the second waveguide section is positioned within the cavity of the shaft and unsecured to the inner surface of the shaft to form a radial gap between an outer surface of the second proximal end and a laterally adjacent portion of the inner surface of the shaft. The shaft and the first waveguide section are configured to rotate about the rotational axis and relative to the second waveguide section.

A computing device includes memory configured for storing executable instructions, a processor configured for executing the instructions, a foldable display layer configured for displaying information in response to the execution of the instructions, and a bend limit layer coupled to the foldable display layer and arranged substantially parallel to a display surface of the foldable display layer. The bend limit layer is configured to increase its stiffness non-linearly when a radius of a bend of the bend limit layer is less than a threshold radius of curvature of the foldable display layer, the threshold radius of curvature being greater than 1 mm and less than 20 mm.

An apparatus utilizes multiple strain gauge ('SG') sensing units which are each disposed adjacent an inner surface of the device housing. Electrical voltage generated by the SGs is amplified by one or more amplifiers to maximize the resolution between a voltage output of an SG when in a non-pressed state and a voltage output of the SG when in a pressed state. Additionally, an electronic circuit is configured to identify a baseline voltage output for an SG over a period of time for comparing to a voltage output for the SG when the SG is in a pressed state such that the pressed state of the SG can be identified by the electronic circuit by comparing a current output voltage of the SG to the identified baseline voltage.

The cover glass arrangement includes a thinner region or cover glass that is positioned over a light-receiving region of the camera. A computing device is described that receives fingerprint data that is generated by at least one sensor of the computing device and determines, based on a comparison of the fingerprint data with data associated with a fingerprint of an authorized user of the computing device, whether to authorize access to one or more applications that are executable by the computing device. An apparatus for sensing user input includes a first strain gauge grouping attached to an inner surface of a housing of a device, and a second strain gauge grouping attached to the inner surface of the housing. The apparatus includes a circuit coupled to the first and second strain gauge groupings, the circuit being configured to: (i) receive a first parameter signal from the first strain gauge grouping in response to user input that interacts with the housing over a location of the first strain gauge grouping, (ii) indicate that a first type of user input has been received in response to receipt of the first parameter signal, (iii) receive a second parameter signal from the second strain gauge grouping in response to user input that interacts with the housing over a location of the second strain gauge grouping, and (iv) indicate that a second type of user input has been received in response to receipt of the second parameter signal.

An electronic device having an enclosure formed from at least one ceramic cover and a peripheral structure adjacent the periphery of the ceramic cover is disclosed. The peripheral structure can be secured adjacent to the ceramic cover with an attachment member. The ceramic cover can include a recess to receive the attachment member. The peripheral structure can be molded adjacent the ceramic cover so that a gapless interface can be formed between the peripheral structure and the periphery of the ceramic cover.

An electronic device may have a display and other electrical components that are sensitive to electrostatic charge. A button may pass through an opening in a layer of the display. A metal trim may surround the button. The housing may have an opening with a clear lens surrounded by a metal trim. To prevent damage from electrostatic discharge, an electrostatic discharge path may be formed in the device that includes a metal trim surrounding a component such as a button member or camera lens, metal traces on the inner surface of a display layer or a housing, a grounded metal housing structure, and a spring or other conductive structure that couples the metal traces to the grounded metal housing structure. Displays may be provided with electrostatic discharge paths that route electrostatic charge to grounded metal housing structures.

A control mechanism comprises a housing defining an interior and an exterior, an aperture formed in the housing and extending from the interior to the exterior thereof, an actuator on the interior of the housing, proximate the control aperture, and a control member positionable within the aperture to operate the actuator. The control member comprises a first surface exposed to the exterior of the housing, a second surface proximate the actuator within the housing, and a body portion extending therebetween, the body portion being formed of a substantially single crystal aluminum oxide material. A bias member is configured to bias the body portion of the control member toward an inner surface of the housing, such that the control member is retained within the aperture in operation of the actuator.
