Infectious diseases may be acquired in public areas such as transportation terminals, shopping centers, schools, hospitals, restaurants and hotels. Large surface areas may be disinfected using a spray system to distribute a suitable fluid such as a disinfectant. Many existing spray systems are large and unwieldy causing operator fatigue. Some spray systems have large, heavy external tanks that provide fluid to the spray system using an external fluid hose. Disclosed is an improved portable spraying system that may be carried by a system operator. The improved system has a tank, a pump, a valve, a nozzle, and a fan all powered by a battery. The tank, the pump, and the battery are arranged to minimize operator fatigue. With the valve set to the priming position, fluid recirculates to prime the pump. Once the pump is primed, the valve is turned to the spray position to begin spraying.

Disclosed is a sheet repositionable that is attracted to a nearby object by electrostatic charges. The sheet requires no pressure sensitive adhesive to stick to the object. The sheet is attracted to the nearby object by electrostatic charges on the sheet. The sheet has a first surface and a second surface. The electrostatic charges may be on the first surface, on the second surface, or on both the first surface and the second surface. The electrostatic charges have both a magnitude and a polarity that can be either positive or negative. The charges on the sheet may be all positive, the charges may be all negative, or the sheet may have regions of positive electrostatic charges and regions of negative electrostatic charges. In each case, the magnitude of the charges is sufficient to attract the sheet to the nearby object. Once the sheet is in contact with the object, electrostatic charges causes the sheet to stick to the object.

A process for the deposition of particulate material of a desired substance on a surface includes: (i) charging a particle formation vessel with a compressed fluid; (ii) introducing into the particle formation vessel a first feed stream comprising a solvent and the desired substance dissolved therein and a second feed stream comprising the compressed fluid, wherein the desired substance is less soluble in the compressed fluid relative to its solubility in the solvent and the solvent is soluble in the compressed fluid, and wherein the first feed stream is dispersed in the compressed fluid, allowing extraction of the solvent into the compressed fluid and precipitation of particles of the desired substance; (iii) exhausting compressed fluid, solvent and the desired substance from the particle formation vessel at a rate substantially equal to the rate of addition of such components to the vessel in step (ii) through a restrictive passage to a lower pressure whereby the compressed fluid is transformed to a gaseous state and a flow of particles of the desired substance is formed; and (iv) exposing a receiver surface to the exhausted flow of particles of the desired substance and depositing a uniform layer of particles on the receiver surface.

A toning roll assembly in which a rotatable core member with magnetic poles disposed about the periphery thereof is positioned within a hollow shell so that the shell-to-core clearance, and therefore, the magnetic field strength on the outside surface of the shell varies from point-to-point on the shell. Magnetically attractable developer particles are fed onto the shell's surface at a point of higher field strength and moved through a point of lower field strength on the shell. The latter field strength is such so that under the operating and design parameters of the assembly, only the amount of developer required to properly tone the latent image on an associated photoconductor remains magnetically supported on the shell for transport to the photoconductor after the developer passes the point of lower field strength. In one embodiment, the core and shell are rotatable cylinders disposed eccentrically with respect to each other, while in another embodiment the core is a rotatable cylinder and the shell is non-cylindrical and stationary.

A xeroprinting master is formed by depositing a corona charge injection modifying material on a master substrate which includes a charge transport layer. The material can block the injection of charge that would otherwise inject into the charge transport layer or it can inject charge that would otherwise remain on the surface of the master. Preferably, the deposit is made by a conventional printer such as an ink jet, impact or thermal printer and the resulting deposit is not fused before use in xeroprinting.

A replaceable development station is provided for use with an electrostatographic machine in which a toner monitor is automatically calibrated when a fresh development station is loaded into the machine. The detected toner concentration in the development station is used by the monitor as a reference signal against which future readings are compared. The reference signal is reset upon machine power-up correspond to the detected toner concentration in the development station, but only when there is a fresh development station in the machine. The development station provides for indicating when the reference signal has previously been set for the developer mix. The reference value would not be reset upon other than the first time the machine is powered up with a particular development station. The indicating means is preferably a frangible member such as an electrical fuse.

An improved bar magnet and method of construction, and an improved magnetic core comprising an assembly of such magnets, for use in a processing station of an electrostatographic printing machine. The improved bar magnet is formed of permanent magnet material having magnetic domains therein that are magnetized along epicycloidal curve segments. The external magnetic flux density is improved over that of a conventionally-magnetized magnet. An injection mold for inducing the particular epicycloidal alignment of magnetic domains in the improved bar magnet is provided.

A toner monitor in an electrostatographic machine is automatically calibrated when a new replaceable development station is loaded into the machine. The detected toner concentration in the development station is used by the monitor as a reference signal against which future readings are compared. The reference signal is reset upon machine power-up to correspond to the detected toner concentration in the development station, but only when there is a fresh development station in the machine. Resetting the reference signal only when there is a fresh development station prevents erroneous reference signals which would result if the developer mix concentration was other than perfect at power-down.

Disclosed is a method of improving the sharpness of multiple copies made from a single imagewise exposure using an electrostatographic film buffer element having an insulating layer in between a conductive layer and a photoconductive layer, where the element is simultaneously charged and imagewise exposed and then uniformly exposed with light to bury the charges. The improvement consists of performing the uniform exposure with light that is absorbed by the photoconductive layer and does not penetrate through the photoconductive layer to the insulating layer. Also disclosed is apparatus useful for making multiple copies which comprises an electrostatographic film buffer element which comprises, (A) in order, a conductive layer, an insulating layer, and a photoconductive layer, (B) means for simultaneously charging the imagewise exposing the element, and (C) means for uniformly exposing the element with light that is absorbed by the photoconductive layer and does not penetrate through the photoconductive layer to the insulating layer. Also disclosed is a method of making multiple electrostatographic copies comprising simultaneously charging and imagewise exposing an electrostatographic film buffer element which comprises, in order, a conductive layer, an insulating layer, and a photoconductive layer, uniformly exposing the element with light that is absorbed by the photoconductive layer and does not penetrate through the photoconductive layer to the insulating layer, thereby forming a latent electrostatic image on the insulating layer, developing the latent electrostatic image and transferring the developed image to a receiver, and repeating the previous step without additional imagewise exposures of the element.

A magnetic brush applicator for use in an electrographic reproduction apparatus for applying a magnetic developer to a recording element comprises a cylindrical non-magnetic sleeve having a rotatably driven magnetic core piece positioned therein. According to the invention, the axis of rotation of the magnetic core piece is displaced from the sleeve axis, such displacement being toward a development zone at which the applicator applies developer to the recording element. In a preferred embodiment, the rotational axis of the core piece lies in a plane passing through the sleeve axis, such plane being angularly displaced with respect to a second plane connecting the sleeve axis and the line of closest contact between the sleeve and recording element. Such angular displacement is between 0.degree. and 20.degree. in a direction upstream of the second plane as determined by the directioh of core piece rotation. As a result of the non-concentric arrangement between the applicator's sleeve and core piece, the torque requirements for rotating the core piece are reduced, developer replenishment is facilitated and less thermal energy is introduced into the developer during rotation of the core piece.
