Some embodiments of the invention provides a media editing application that includes tools to perform a variety of different editing operations based on roles assigned to media content. In some embodiments, the media editing application includes focus-editing tools to emphasize or de-emphasize different sets of clips based on the assigned roles. In some embodiments, the media editing application allows one or more sets of clips to be disabled or enabled during playback based on the assigned roles.

Role-facilitated editing operations

In some implementations, a user can specify an audio control curve for an audio track. The audio track can include an audio signal that is sampled at a specified rate. The audio control curve can be used to generate an audio control signal that can be sampled at the same rate as the audio signal. The audio signal and the audio control signal can be combined to produce sample-accurate adjustments of the audio signal. In some implementations, the audio control curve can correspond to gain adjustments for the audio signal. In some implementations, the audio control curve can be used to adjust the amplitude of the audio signal at particular frequencies. The audio control curve can be used to adjust treble or bass levels during the playback of an audio track, for example.

Volume adjustment based on user-defined curve

Some embodiments of the invention provide a computer system for processing an audio track. This system includes at least on DSP for processing the audio track. It also includes an application for editing the audio track. To process audio data in a first interval of the audio track, the application first asks and obtains from the DSP an impulse response parameter related to the DSP's processing of audio data. From the received impulse response parameter, the application identifies a second audio track interval that is before the first interval. To process audio data in the first interval, the application then directs the DSP to process audio data within the first and second intervals.

Method and apparatus for efficiently accounting for the temporal nature of audio processing

A method for displaying a gain control interface having a gain level display with non-linear gain levels. The gain level display has a first end having an associated first pixel offset value and a second end having an associated second pixel offset value. A range of pixel offset values span from the first pixel offset value through the second pixel offset value. The method includes receiving a plurality of pixel offset values in the range of pixel offset values, calculating a gain level value for each of the plurality of pixel offset values (whereby a difference between two pixel offset values of two gain level values having a gain level difference is not equal to a difference of two pixel offset values of any other two gain level values having the same gain level difference), and mapping a gain level value to a pixel offset value.

Method and apparatus for displaying a gain control interface with non-linear gain levels

A method for reducing data events representing a parameter of a signal as adjusted by a user through a control interface during a time period. The method includes receiving a series of data events where each data event has a parameter value of the signal and a time-based value associated with the parameter value that corresponds to an instance in time during the time period. The method further includes processing three data events in the series of data events and eliminating one of the three data events based in part on the parameter values of the three data events relative to each other.
