A drum maintenance system for use in an imaging device includes a sump having a bottom surface and a plurality of sidewalls which are arranged to accommodate a volume of release agent. A roller applicator is rotatably supported a first distance above the sump and partially submerged in the release agent in the sump. A foam layer is positioned on the bottom surface of the sump beneath the roller applicator that has a first thickness that is greater than the first distance such that the foam layer is compressed between the roller applicator and the bottom surface of the sump. A filter is sandwiched between the foam layer and the roller applicator. The compressed foam layer provides a compliance force that presses the filter against the roller applicator. The filter is configured to permit rotation of the roller applicator positioned on top of the foam layer while being pressed against the roller applicator by the foam layer.

Printing apparatus

A maintenance system and method for maintaining an imaging member of an imaging device includes a pre-cleaning device to clean the imaging member; an applicator to apply release agent to the imaging member; a metering device to meter release agent on the imaging member; a reservoir to remotely store release agent; and a pump to supply the applicator with release agent from the reservoir. The saturation level of the applicator is monitored and maintained within a predetermined range. The applicator, pre-cleaning device and metering device may be independently actuated to engage the imaging member. Release agent collected by the pre-cleaning device and/or metering device may be recycled. Debris collected by the pre-cleaning device and/or metering device may be stored and/or removed.

Drum maintenance system for an imaging device and method and system for maintaining an imaging device

A system for applying a liquid to a support surface in an imaging apparatus comprises an application surface that applies liquid to the support surface; and a filter positioned in relation to the application surface such that liquid removed from the support surface passes through the filter to the application surface. The filter includes a low-friction, low-fiber shed permeable layer in contact with the application surface.

Low friction reduced fiber shed drum maintenance filter and reclamation method

A drum maintenance unit (drum maintenance unit) to reduce build up of electrostatic charge within a printer device. The drum maintenance unit may have a static shield positioned to reduce the build up of an electrostatic charge and to act as a physical barrier by preventing discarded oil from becoming airborne and returning to the oiling roller unfiltered. The static shield may also be utilized to retain and house the filtration system of the drum maintenance unit thus reducing part count and manufacturing time.
