A method at a user equipment capable of supporting at least two radio connections, the method including requesting from a remote server, using a first radio connection, a subscriber identity; receiving, at the user equipment, the subscriber identity over the first radio connection; using the subscriber identity to establish a second radio connection; and forcing the first radio connection to remain on a same network as the second radio connection. Further, a method at a user equipment capable of supporting at least two radio connections, the method receiving a subscriber authentication challenge over the second network connection; using the first radio connection to connect to the remote server to obtain an authentication challenge response for the subscriber authentication challenge; and sending the authentication challenge response over the second network connection.

Method and apparatus for a dual radio user equipment

A telephone station apparatus that is arranged to operate on two, or more, communication lines, receives an instruction to access a voicemail server. The telephone station apparatus switches from a first communication line to a second communication line and initiates a call to the voicemail server. At the voicemail server, calling line identification allows the voicemail server to present an interface to the voicemail box associated with the second communication line.

A system and method for providing calling feature icons in a user interface that allow users to determine with ease the status of different calling features, and in respect of at least one embodiment, to identify with ease the communication lines associated with calling features that have been enabled (and/or disabled) on the mobile device. In example embodiments, for each calling feature, at most one general calling feature icon associated with the respective calling feature is displayed in a general calling feature icon display field of a call screen if the respective calling feature applies to at least one of a plurality of communication lines accessible at the mobile device. System and method for providing calling feature icons in a user interface that facilitates user selection of a communication line for an outgoing call on a mobile device

The described embodiments involve use of a mobile communication device in the context of facilitating contact from within a telephone application. The described embodiments are primarily concerned with enabling quick and efficient access to contact methods other than by telephone from within the telephone application. This is done by generating a contact list, which may have one or more contacts, using an integrated dialing field provided by the telephone application and then displaying all available contact types or methods available for contacting a particular contact selected from the list.

Method and mobile device for facilitating contact from within a telephone application

A system and method is disclosed that provides for the displaying, on display screen of an electronic device, a list of contact names, and further provides for the designating, by sequentially scrolling through the list of contact names, individual contact names in the list of contact names and wherein designation of an individual contact name reveals available information about the contact.

Selective viewing of information

Call initiation on a device with potential for a large number of stored telephone numbers is simplified through the use of an integrated field for entry of an ambiguous filter string. As it is not clear, a priori, whether the user is manually specifying, in the integrated field, a telephone number or providing a filter string for filtering contacts, filtering is performed based on at least one filter string. Among the contacts that are part of a filtering result list, a default contact is selected for quick access.

Integrated dialing

A system and method for providing a user interface that allows users to change the active line on which an outgoing call may be placed. In example embodiments, a direction to display a line selection menu on the call screen is received from the user, where the line selection menu is comprised of data identifying one or more of the multiple communication lines accessible at the mobile device. In response to the direction received from the user, the line selection menu is displayed on the call screen, and an input identifying a user-selected communication line is received. A display field in which data identifying the active line is displayed is updated accordingly.

System and method for providing a user interface that facilitates user selection of a communication line for an outgoing call on a mobile device

A portable electronic device that allows a user to dial a telephone number using a virtual rotary dial pad configuration. The device includes a physically depressible touch screen display. Speed dialing is enabled by touching and dragging a selected numeric or non-numeric symbol to a predetermined location on the touch screen display and by holding the selected symbol at the predetermined location for a predetermined duration of time. Successful dialing of a symbol results in tactile, audio or visual feedback. Touching and dragging selected symbols may be replaced by touching the selected symbol and physically depressing the touch screen. Both numeric and non-numeric symbols may be dialed.

Method and apparatus for implementing a virtual rotary dial pad on a portable electronic device

A method and device are provided for preventing unintended activation of one or more hard keys on a mobile device. A capacitive sensor senses a capacitance level at a location on the keyboard, to detect whether a hard key is being actuated by a human hand or human skin. If the sensed capacitance level exceeds a key activation capacitance threshold, a key circuit connection is identified as being associated with an intended hard key activation. If the measured capacitance level is within an uncertainty tolerance below the key activation capacitance threshold, a secondary capacitance level is measured at a non-keyboard location. The key circuit connection is identified as being associated with an intended hard key activation when the measured secondary capacitance level exceeds a key activation confirmation threshold. Additional secondary indicators can be obtained based on size and shape capacitance pattern, timing information, and an active application or device state.

Detection of intended key activation on a mobile device

A system and method for, on a mobile device having a plurality of communication lines on which outgoing calls may be made, providing a user interface for selecting a calling card to be used in making an outgoing call to a desired phone number. The method includes: associating each calling card in a set of at least one calling card with a communication line; and displaying on a display of the mobile device a line selection menu containing a plurality of card/line identifiers; wherein each card/line identifier is configured to uniquely identify a corresponding associated calling card and communication line combination.
