A U-shaped insert for a weather strip includes a plurality of segments, which are spaced apart by a predetermined interval. Adjacent pairs of the segments are attached together by a pair of coupling members. The coupling members of each pair of the segments are substantially parallel to one another. Acutely angled corners are formed by each coupling member and the segments to which it is attached. The acutely angled corners include notches, which are cylindrical and extend into the associated segment. This permits deformation of the insert, while the insert resists tensile deformation.

Insert for trim, trim and weather strip for vehicle

The present invention relates to a trim or a seal member such as an opening trim weather strip. The trim or a trim body in the seal member has a holding lip portion and modified holding lip portions. And the holding lip portion and modified holding lip portions have head portions. The head portions are made to bulge out toward a bottom wall portion at the tip ends of modified holding lip portions of the trim or the trim body of trim portion. The modified holding lip portions are formed so that projecting lengths of the head portions from the end surfaces of tip end portions of the modified holding lip portions, and the thicknesses of the head portions increase in inverse proportion to lip projecting lengths of the modified holding lip portions from an inner surface of an interior side wall portion. Alternatively, a slope inclined with respect to an extension plane of an opening-portion-side surface of a base end portion is formed at tip ends of the modified holding lip portions. The slope is formed so that the inclination angle with respect to the extension plane increases in accordance with the projecting lengths of the modified holding lip portions.

Trim and seal member

A method for making an article including an elongated member and a tape member bonded to the elongated member. An elongated member is extruded from at least one rubber in a continuous manner, then continuously vulcanized. A tape member including at least one resin layer with a melting temperature that is lower than a temperature of the elongated member immediately after vulcanization is separately supplied and preheated to about the softening temperature of the resin layer. The preheated tape member is then continuously contacted with and pressed against the vulcanized elongated member to thereby at least temporarily fix the elongated member to the tape member at opposing surfaces. Contact between the elongated member and the tape member is maintained for a sufficient period of time to cause heat remaining in the elongated member from the vulcanizing step to melt at least the opposing surface of the tape member. The tape member is continuously pressed against the elongated member while removing heat from the tape member to thereby fusion bond the tape member and the elongated member together.

A die is formed with an opening having substantially the same shape as a fundamental cross-sectional shape of an extrusion member. A first core is formed with a projecting portion projecting forward beyond a front surface of the die. A movable die for changing the external shape of a sealing portion is disposed on the front surface of the die. The movable die is allowed to move between a position where a curved surface formed at the forward end thereof is kept away from the projecting portion of the first core and another position where the curved surface comes close to the projecting portion. Further, first and second movable cores are inserted in the opening of the die, these movable cores being moved forward and backward along the direction in which EPDM is extruded.

Weather strip and method and apparatus for extrusion-molding the same

In a method of decorating a rubber extruded product, a decoration film made of a thermoplastic resin is laminated by use of thermal fusion onto a decorating part of a vulcanized rubber extruded product. The decoration film is extruded at a predetermined thickness and width independently of the vulcanized rubber extruded product. Thereafter, the decoration film is pressure-bonded and thermally fused to the decorating part of the vulcanized rubber extruded product by pressure rollers before curing.

Method of decorating rubber extruded product

An apparatus for extruding a weather strip having first and second function portions and a connecting portion interconnecting these function portions is disclosed. The connecting portion varies in width according to a longitudinal position along the weather strip. Included in the apparatus is a head, a main die plate which is mated with a front side of the head and which has a first opening for extruding rubber therethrough to form a first function portion, such as a mounting portion, and part of the connecting portion, a fixed die plate connected to the main die plate, and a movable die disposed in the fixed die plate. The movable die has a second opening for extruding rubber therethrough to form a second function portion, such as a sealing portion, and part of the connecting portion and is slidably received in a reception portion in the fixed die plate. A discharge rate of the rubber for forming the connecting portion is adjustable in accordance with the sliding movement of the movable die. Burrs on the resulting weather strip are therefore avoided. Also, sacrificial portions of the rubber are not generated. The second opening in the movable die is formed into a required special configuration, and by moving the movable die, the width of the connecting portion can be easily varied while maintaining the shape of the seal portion.

Method of and an apparatus for forming weather strip by extrusion

A method for forming an extruded weather strip having a trim portion and a lip having a thickened end portion. The method includes the steps of: extruding unvulcanized rubber through a head mounted on a downstream end of an extruder; roughly shaping the extruded unvulcanized rubber by causing the extruded unvulcanized rubber to move through an opening formed in a main die plate disposed downstream of the head so as to shape a portion of the extruded unvulcanized rubber corresponding to the trim portion and a portion of the extruded unvulcanized rubber corresponding to the lip into a shape having a width not smaller than the maximum width of the lip to be finally formed; forming the thickened end portion by causing the shaped unvulcanized rubber to pass through a space defined by a movable orifice plate which is disposed downstream of the main die plate and, while moving the movable orifice plate in the direction of width of the weather strip; and shaping the end of the lip by further advancing the shaped unvulcanized rubber through an end shaping structure, while moving the end shaping structure substantially together with the movable orifice plate.

Method of and apparatus for forming weather strip by extrusion

The present invention is directed to a door weather strip in which the corner portions thereof are integrally formed with straight portions thereof. In order to obtain a predetermined sealing interference, the cross sectional shape of the corner portions of hollow sealing portion and the lip seal of the weather strip is arranged to be longer than that in the straight portion. Alternatively, the sealing portion is raised as to have a predetermined shape when the corners are formed. Said formed shapes are solidified by vulcanization after the weather strip has been plastically deformed before the vulcanization.

Method of manufacturing a door weather strip

A weather strip including a trim part U-shaped in section, a hollow seal part joined to the trim part, and a core member made up of a plurality of U-shaped core pieces embeded in the trim part to the extent that the weather strip is not impaired in flexibility. Wires are embeded in the weather strip in such a manner that they are located near the joint and extend in the weather strip longitudinally. Hence, the weather strip can be engaged with a flange of a vehicle that varies three-dimensionally in posture and in direction.

Vehicle weather strip

The present invention is directed to a door weather strip in which the corner portions thereof are integrally formed with straight portions thereof. In order to obtain a predetermined sealing interference, the cross sectional shape of the corner portions of hollow sealing portion and the lip seal of the weather strip is arranged to be longer than that in the straight portion. Alternatively, the sealing portion is raised as to have a predetermined shape when the corners are formed. Said formed shapes are solidified by vulcanization after the weather strip has been plastic deformed before the vulcanization.

Door weather strip

A weather strip to be attached to a flange formed along a door opening or a door frame of a motor vehicle, having a trim portion, a sealing portion formed on an outer surface of the trim portion, and two flange retaining lips projecting from each of opposed inner surfaces of the trim portion inwardly for holding the flange. A notch is defined longitudinally in a root portion of one flange retaining lip projecting from adjacent and open end of one of the opposed inner surfaces, which is on the opposite side of the trim portion from the sealing portion. When the weather strip is attached to a thicker flange, the one flange retaining lip is ripped off along the notch.

Weather strip for motor vehicle

An opening trim which is mounted to a body flange of a door mounting opening portion of an automobile, and provided with a U-like cross-section and grasping lips on the inside of the U-like cross-section. The opening trim comprises a portion intended to grasp a thick portion of the body flange and a usual portion continuing to the portion intended to grasp the thick portion, and both portions are molded integrally by means of extrusion molding. The inclination angle of the grasping lips at least in one side of the portion intended to grasp the thick portion with respect to the flange inserting surface is made smaller than that in the usual portion. Thereby the flange pushing resisting force in the portion intended to grasp the thick portion is about equal with that in the usual portion.

Opening trim

An injection molding machine for molding with a high polymer material such as rubber and resin which is improved in the working efficiency and productivity thereof. The injection molding machine comprises a plurality of independent metallic molds, a metallic mold securing device having two receiving portions for receiving and clamping the metallic molds therein, a metallic mold loading and unloading device for loading and unloading the metallic molds to and from the receiving portions, and a drive device for moving the metallic mold securing device. Accordingly, injection and vulcanization can be carried out alternately for two metallic molds so that, also during vulcanization for the first metallic mold, injection to the cavity of the second metallic mold can be carried out. The metallic mold securing device can otherwise have more than two such receiving portions when necessary.

A wiper blade comprising a thick base section consisting of a head to be inserted through a slit formed in a backing plate, a body to be extended below the backing plate and a connecting neck interconnecting the head and the body; a turning section having a substantially triangular cross section; a neck section interconnecting the base section and the turning section; and a lip section extended from the ridge of the turning section in the form of a thin strip for wiping the surface of a windshield, wherein at least the surface layer of at least either the connecting neck or the neck section is formed of an ozone-resistant rubber.

A clamping device of this invention is constructed of bases on which molds are slidably moved, regulating portions each provided above the corresponding base and having a clamping surface which is inclined relative to the base, shifting means provided beside the bases and for shifting each mold placed on the base in a direction to which the space between the base and the clamping surface progressively narrows and a spacer fixedly mounted on the upper surface of the mold, the upper surface of which being in the form of an arc in a direction to which the mold is moved. In use, each of the molds placed on the base is moved by the shifting means. The mold is then sandwiched between the base and the clamping surface and clamped to a wedge configuration.
