At least a portion of the first clutching device is coupled with or configured to be coupled with at least a portion of the second clutching device. The invention relates to a method of detecting a change in the direction of rotation of a rotatable shaft () based on non-direction sensitive rotational speed data, the method comprising the steps: &#x25cf;determining a speed () of a rotatable shaft () of a vehicle transmission () based on non-direction sensitive speed data received from a non-direction sensitive rotational speed sensor (), wherein the speed () of the rotatable shaft () is the absolute value of the rotational speed of the rotatable shaft (); &#x25cf;determining, based on the speed () of the rotatable shaft (), if the duration of a first continuous time interval () during which the speed () of the rotatable shaft () is continually smaller than a first predetermined speed value () is shorter than a predetermined duration (); and &#x25cf;detecting that a change in the direction of rotation of the rotatable shaft () has occurred during the first continuous time interval () if the duration of the first continuous time interval () is shorter than the predetermined duration (). The invention further relates to a controller () for carrying out the method and to a driveline () including the controller (). The invention allows to determine a change in direction although the sensor as such is not direction sensitive. This is based on the insight that decelerating to a speed value below a threshold and subsequently accelerating again to a value which is above this threshold corresponds to a change in direction if this process occurs within a short time period.

Method of detecting a change in the direction of rotation of a rotatable shaft

A system and method for determining filling parameters of a wet clutch system used with a transmission is provided. The method comprises the steps of collecting information about the torque output of the torque converter of the transmission during a filling process associated with the wet clutch system, analyzing the signal associated with the torque output of the torque converter within a time period of the filling process associated with the wet clutch system, and identifying when the signal associated with the torque output of the torque converter changes with respect to the time period of the filling process of the piston to determine a filling parameter associated with the wet clutch system. The system and method eliminates a need for recalibrating the transmission and accommodates production variances for components and assembly of systems using wet clutch systems.

Fill parameter learning for wet plate clutches based on an output of a torque converter

A system and method for determining a remaining useful life of a portion of a wet clutch system is provided. The system comprises a first clutch assembly, a proportional valve, a sensor, and a controller. The proportional valve regulates a pressure applied to the first clutch assembly. The sensor measures a response of the first clutch assembly during one of engaging and disengaging a first portion of the first clutch assembly with a second portion of the first clutch assembly. The controller controls the proportional valve, calculates a mean coefficient of friction of the first clutch assembly based on the sensed response of the first clutch assembly, and determines a remaining useful life of a portion of the wet clutch system based on the mean coefficient of friction of the first clutch assembly.

System and method to predict the remaining useful life of a clutch by coefficient of friction estimation

A method and a device for calibrating a wet clutch is provided. The clutch comprises a pump, a piston, a proportional valve, a controller, and a pressure sensor. The method comprises the steps of closing the clutch by sending a pressure profile with fill parameters from the controller to the proportional valve, recording a pressure signal of the hydraulic fluid, comparing the pressure profile with the pressure signal, determining whether at least one defined feature is in the pressure signal that is indicative of errors in the fill parameters, and if said feature is determined in the pressure signal, modification of the pressure profile by changing at least one of the fill parameters.
