A stator assembly for a rotary machine a stator vane for the assembly are disclosed. Various construction details are developed which facilitate assembly, disassembly and replaceability of the vane. The stator assembly includes a casing having a plurality of flats which adapts the case to engage a corresponding flat on the stator vane.

STATOR VANE BLANK AND METHOD OF FORMING THE VANE BLANK A forged vane blank for forming a stator vane for a rotary machine is disclosed. Various construction details are developed which facilitate forging and machining of the vane blank into its final form as a stator vane. In one detailed embodiment, the vane blank has a greater draft angle at the outer surface than the draft angle at the inner surface as a result of the forging operation.

A stator assembly for a rotary machine having a shroud for a stator vane is disclosed. Various construction details are developed which limit movement of the stator vane into the flowpath by reason of the stator vane being restrained by the shroud. In one particular embodiment, a clip member extends through an opening in the tip of the vane and is disposed at a location adjacent a nonflowpath surface of the shroud to restrain the tip of the vane against inward movement through the shroud.

Various details of the method are developed which may be used for the manufacture, the modification, and the repair of the stator assembly. The method includes forming a liner for the stator assembly independently of the stator assembly; and, disposing the liner in the stator assembly to adapt the stator assembly to receive the roller assembly.

Method of forming a track for an axial flow gas turbine

A method for forming a rotor assembly for guiding motion of one circumferentially extending structure with respect to a second structure is disclosed. Various steps of the method are developed and include forming a pin for receiving a rotatable element for the roller assembly. In one particular embodiment the method includes forming the pin with a one-piece head and trapping the rotatable element between the pin and support structure for the pin.

Method of forming a roller assembly

A roller assembly for guiding the motion of a circumferentially extending ring in a gas turbine engine, where the roller assembly has a pin and a collar. The pin has a head which engages a rotatable element, which in turn adapts the roller assembly to engage a track and which adapts the roller assembly to receive an external force from the track under operative conditions, causing a reactive force on the rotatable element to resist the external force. A gap formed between a shank of the pin and the collar decreases the bending stresses in the shank in comparison to forces acting on the pin at an end of the collar which engages a support.

Roller assembly for guiding an actuating ring

A housing assembly for a turbine engine has a housing which is adapted to cooperate with an adjacent valve ring assembly. The housing has a plurality of passages for working medium gases which extend radially through the housing and are circumferentially spaced in the housing. The valve ring modulates the flow through the passages. A plurality of flanges extend axially and circumferentially from the housing. Each flange has a track opening which receives a liner and a roller assembly having a bearing surface. The roller assembly in combination with the liner guides the valve ring assembly. The liner and the housing have different physical characteristics, such as a different rate of thermal expansion and different spring rate characteristics which accommodate differences in thermal growth between the liner and the housing.

Stator assembly for a rotary machine

A stator assembly of an axial flow rotary machine has a compressor bleed system. The compressor bleed system includes an axially translating valve ring. The valve ring is movable between an open and closed position and includes guide roller and guide track having guide walls which urge the valve ring axially against resilient seal members. The track is contoured to provide a mechanical advantage when the valve ring is moved to the closed position. A liner is adapted to engage the stator assembly to form the track.

Stator structure for a track opening of a rotary machine

A bellcrank mechanism (52) for applications in which unequal transverse forces (F.sub.i, F.sub.o) act on the two legs of a bellcrank support clevis includes a bellcrank bracket (64), a bellcrank (54) having a support clevis (56), and a set of bearings (84a, 84b) having unequal load bearing areas (99a, 99b). The bearings are installed in apertures (80) in the support clevis and are axially clamped to the support bracket to pivotably and transversely support the bellcrank so that relative pivotal motion occurs at the interface (102a, 102b) between the exterior surface (99a, 99b) of each bearing and the perimeter surface (100a, 100b) of the corresponding clevis aperture (80). The bearing having the larger load bearing area is aligned with the larger transverse force and the bearing with the smaller load bearing area is aligned with the smaller transverse force to improve the durability and reliability of the bellcrank mechanism. In one variant, each bearing is circumscribed by a similarly sized wear sleeve (82a, 82b) so that relative motion occurs at the interface (96a, 96b) between the interior surface (97a, 97b) of each wear sleeve and the exterior surface 99a, 99b of the corresponding bearing 84a, 84b. In another embodiment, each bearing includes a flange (85) that seats against the bellcrank (54) to guard against dirt contamination of the relative motion interfaces.

Bellcrank mechanism

Rotor blade and disk structures enabling the disassembly and reassembly of a single rotor blade are disclosed. The concepts are particularly suited to configurations employing interlocking mid-span shrouds which inhibit the withdrawal of a single blade from a disk. In one specific geometry the rotor blade root section (20) and the disk attachment slot (24) are contoured to provide increasing clearance between the bottom of the blade root section and the attachment slot as the blade is withdrawn axially from the slot. Rocking of the blade within the provided clearance enables withdrawal of the blade around the shroud segments (30,32) and airfoil sections (16) of the adjacent blades (12).
