An electronic device, such as a digital camera, includes a deletion mode whereby a camera/electronic device user can delete captured images or data files that have already been transferred in order to make room in the electronic device or digital camera memory for capturing further images. In one embodiment, a digital camera keeps track of which images have already been transferred to an external storage device and presents those to the user as potential images to be deleted. In another embodiment, the user is presented with a 'delete all transferred images' which when selected deletes all the captured images that have already been transferred. In still another embodiment, deletion criteria are used to prioritize which images are deleted first.

A digital video camera comprising: user controls enabling a user to select between at least an up input, a down input, a left input, a right input, and a confirmation input; and a program memory storing instructions to implement a method for trimming a digital video sequence. The method includes: selecting a digital video sequence; initiating a trimming operation; accepting user input to select a start frame and an end frame for a trimmed digital video sequence, wherein the up input and the down input are used to select between a start frame selection mode and an end frame selection mode, and the left input and the right input are used to scroll through the frames of the selected digital video sequence; and trimming the selected video sequence to include the frames between the selected start frame and the selected end frame.

A digital camera system having a digital camera and a remote control module is disclosed. The digital camera includes an image capture system, memory and wireless modem. The remote control module includes another wireless modem (to communicate with the digital camera's wireless modem), first and second user controls and a status display. One of the user controls can (via the wireless modems) cause the camera to capture an image. The other user control can cause the digital camera (via the wireless modems) to deliver camera status information which can then be displayed on the remote control module's status display.

Information from the at least one input device corresponding to the print job is received. The print job is processed on the imaging machine. A print media sheets available count is received representative of a plurality of print media sheets adapted to be fed through the imaging machine. A digital camera system providing a low-power image capture mode includes an image capture system, an image display and a power management system. The power management system is used to provide a normal image capture mode wherein captured digital images are displayed on the image display as they are captured, and a low-power image capture mode wherein captured digital images are not displayed on the image display as they are captured. A user interface includes a first user control for selecting between the normal image capture mode and the low-power image capture mode, and a second user control for initiating a video capture operation. The system is configured such that if the first user control is activated while a digital video is being captured, the power management system switches between the normal image capture mode and the low-power image capture mode without interrupting the video capture operation.

A portable electronic device providing a user-specified input string, comprising: user controls enabling a user to select between at least an up input, a down input, a left input, a right input, and a confirmation input; and a program memory storing instructions configured to implement a method for providing a user-specified input string. The method includes: displaying a string input interface including a string entry section, and at least two independently scrollable character selection sections; accepting user input to sequentially select characters, wherein the up input and the down input are used to select a scrollable character selection section, the left input and the right input are used to scroll through the characters in the selected scrollable character selection section to select a particular character, and the confirmation input is used to add the selected particular character to the input string displayed in the string input section.

A digital camera system having a retail mode, comprising: an image sensor; an optical system for forming an image of a scene; a data processing system; a storage memory; and a program memory storing instructions configured to implement a method for automatically deleting captured digital images. The stored instructions include setting the digital camera system to operate in the retail mode in response to detecting a predefined first condition; enabling a user to capture a plurality of digital images, storing any digital images captured while the digital camera system is operating in the retail mode in the storage memory; and automatically deleting at least some of the stored digital images from the storage memory in response to detecting a predefined second condition, wherein any stored digital images that were not captured in the retail mode are not deleted from the storage memory.

A digital video camera system that provides a video summary using a method that includes: designating a reference image containing a particular person; capturing a video sequence of the scene using the image sensor, the video sequence including a time sequence of image frames; processing the captured video sequence using a video processing path to form a digital video file; during the capturing of the video sequence, analyzing the captured image frames using a person recognition algorithm to identify a subset of the image frames that contain the particular person; forming the video summary including fewer than all of the image frames in the captured video sequence, wherein the video summary includes at least part of the identified subset of image frames containing the particular person; storing the digital video file in the storage memory; and storing a representation of the video summary in the storage memory.

A digital camera system includes an image capture module and a remote control module. The image capture module includes an image capture system and a first wireless communication system. The remote control module includes a status display with one or more status display elements for displaying status information pertaining to the image capture module, a battery-operated power supply, one or more user controls, a second wireless communication, and a power management system providing a normal-power state and a low-power state. The system is configured such that when a user activates one of the user controls while the remote control module is in the low-power state the remote control module is set to operate in the normal-power state, a status inquiry is sent to the image capture module, and returned status information is displayed on the status display.
