A pulse sensor is capable of measuring a pulse rate of a wearer at a peripheral artery. In an embodiment, the pulse sensor includes a magnet supported to move responsive to an arterial pulse and a magnetometer configured to detect changes in a magnetic field produced by the magnet. The magnet may include a plurality of ferromagnetic particles disposed in or on a flexible substrate configured to be held adjacent to human skin subject to arterial palpation and a magnetic sensor configured to sense movement of the ferromagnetic particles. A system and method may measure hydration includes using a pulse sensor to measure pulse rate and modulation. The wearer is prompted when the pulse rate and pulse modulation indicate a response to dehydration of the wearer.

A heart rate monitor includes a magnet supported to move responsive to an arterial pulse and a magnetometer configured to detect changes in a magnetic field produced by the magnet. An automated circuit test system includes a magnetic sensor array configured to measure, at a plurality of locations, a magnetic field induced by a circuit under test. A circuit drive module can energize the circuit under test to induce the magnetic field. Optionally, the circuit drive module detects an electrical response from the circuit under test. Optionally, magnetic field data is combined with electrical response data prior to outputting the test result.

According to embodiments, multi-axis magnetic sensors (magnetometers) are disposed in an array or a plurality of arrays. The magnetic sensors can be disposed on modules that form the array. The magnetic sensors can each sense a local magnetic field coincident with the respective sensors. Data corresponding to the local magnetic fields can be analyzed by a magnetic field analysis circuit and assembled to form an image corresponding to the sensed magnetic field(s). The magnetic field analysis circuit can output the image corresponding to near-field magnetic features.

Method and apparatus for detecting the type of interface to which a peripheral device is connected

A peripheral device, with first and second communication conductors, is connectable to a computer having one of a first interface and a second interface. The first interface communicates with the peripheral device over a differential data connection having a first data conductor and a second data conductor. The second interface communicates with the peripheral device over a clock conductor and a single ended data connection which includes a data conductor. The peripheral device includes an interface detection component coupled to the first and second communication conductors to detect which of the first and second interfaces the peripheral device is connected to.

A peripheral device, connected to a computer, has either a first or second interface. The first interface communicates over a differential data connection and the second interface communicates over a clock conductor and a single ended data connection. The peripheral device has first and second communication conductors that are either connected to the differential data connection when the computer includes the first interface or to the single ended data connection and the clock conductor when the computer includes the second interface. The peripheral device has an interface detection component that detects which of the first and second interfaces the peripheral device is connected to. The peripheral device also has a controller that communicates according to a protocol corresponding to the detected interface.

The peripheral device also includes a controller component configured to communicate between the peripheral device according to a protocol corresponding to the detected interface.

A keyboard selectively operable to convey data to and from a host or personal computer (PC) through a universal serial bus (USB) port and/or a personal system/2 (PS/2) port. The keyboard is preferably connected to both the USB port and PS/2 port on the host or PC, if available. Preference is given to communicating data from the keyboard to the host or PC through the PS/2 port. However, if the PS/2 port is unavailable, not connected, or inoperative, the keyboard data are communicated to the host or PC through the USB port (assuming that it is available, operative, and connected). As soon as the PS/2 port on the host or PC is again connected to the keyboard, such data will again be communicated through the PS/2 port. In addition, the keyboard includes auxiliary USB ports to which USB-capable peripheral devices can be connected. USB data can then be communicated between the PC and the USB-capable peripheral devices via the keyboard and its connection to the USB port on the host or PC. Power supplied from the PS/2 port on the host or PC is monitored to determine whether that port is connected to the keyboard, and in response, to cause data arising from the user actuating keys on the keyboard to be supplied to the host or PC through the PS/2 port.
