An electronic musical instrument is tonally controlled by the configuration of a user's mouth and lips. The present invention uses a generated frequency signal to excite a first frequency signal from the user's mouth and lips. The present invention then adjusts the generated frequency signal using a phase-locked loop controller to achieve a close match to the natural frequency of the user's mouth and lips. The generated frequency signal is then played back after processing.

An automatic tuning system for pendulum clocks provides for a separable magnet and ferromagnetic attractor, one positioned on the pendulum and one positioned off of the pendulum and adjustable to change the separation between the two. The magnetic attraction between these elements serves to simulate a changing gravitational force fundamentally affecting pendulum period.

A guitar is played during performance by rapid change in the tension of its strings. In one embodiment, rapid, accurate, and repeatable tuning is obtained by a two-step process of adjusting the tension of the string to a stored value which may be then be corrected according to the pitch of the string obtained at later various times during the performance.

A navigation system for mobile use includes street map data used for creating a dynamic map display tracking movement of the vehicle and includes crime data used to provide an overlay on the dynamic display indicating a risk of crime to the vehicle's occupants from the surrounding area. Crime data may be harvested from police websites and/or generated using statistical correlation techniques from other proxy information. Presented crime data indicate crime risk, type of crime, crime date or time of occurrence, and linkage to environmental conditions such as type of weather, temperature, and moonlight.

An inflatable hat provides a concave pocket constructed of flexible material that opens to freely receive the user's head in the manner of a conventional hat by virtue of supports resisting the outward extension of the pocket when the hat is inflated. In one embodiment, the pocket is a cylindrical tube extending between parallel walls of the hat structure. A bowing in of the tube provides varying sizes of hat openings depending on the amount of inflation to provide a comfortable fit to different users.
