A manually-operated quantification soft tissue mobilization (QSTM) device includes a pressure applicator and a sensor member. The pressure applicator is configured to enable a user to dynamically apply a stroking mechanical force as the pressure applicator is moved over an area treatment areas of a patient's soft tissue. The sensor member including an accelerometer and a gyrometer is configured to determine various parameters of the dynamically applied stroking mechanical force in three dimensions as the pressure applicator is moved over the treatment areas of the patient's soft tissue. These parameters include a force magnitude in three dimensions, an angle in multiple axes, a stroke position, a stroke frequency, a sensed vibration magnitude at dominant spectral frequencies, and/or a rate of the stroking mechanical force dynamically applied to the soft tissue.

EMAPII is a monocyte- and endothelial cell-activating protein with prominent pro-apoptotic activity on endothelial and epithelial cells. Provided herein are compositions and methods for treating or preventing endothelial and epithelial apoptosis induced by EMAPII. More particularly, provided herein are compositions and methods for treating or preventing Influenza A virus (IAV)-induced weight loss, impairment of blood oxygenation, lung edema, and endothelial/epithelial apoptosis associated with IAV infections. In addition, anti-EMAPII therapy provides a novel complementary treatment strategy to existing anti-viral and anti-inflammatory approaches.

Disclosed herein is that the systemic administration of ASC conditioned media diminished LPS-induced lung injury by inhibiting epithelial permeability, neutrophil inflammatory response, and secretion of pro-inflammatory TNF&#x3b1;. It is also shown that ARDS lung is able to retain IV-delivered ASC for a substantial amount of time, with no evidence of the significant cell distribution to other organs at this time point. These findings provide optimization of cell-based and cell-free therapy for the treatment of ARDS, including occurrences of ARDS caused by upper respiratory tract infections such as SARS and MERS.

In another embodiment, the step of culturing comprises culturing the at least one stem cell in EGM2MV.

Methods are provided for isolating adipose derived stromal cells from an animal by extracting adipose tissue from the patient, dissecting the tissue, dissociating the tissue into a cell suspension, removing the adipocytes, exposing the cell suspension to red cell lysis buffer, and isolating adipose derived stromal cells.

Adipose stromal stem cells for tissue and vascular modification

A method for producing stem cell conditioned media for treatment of neurological insults is provided herein. By providing for the culture of adipose stem cells, and collecting the supernatants thereof, the supernatants have been shown to effect biological activity in preventing neural death when the supernatants are administered to a patient that has or is about to be subjected to a neural insult.

The needle advancing apparatus advances suture through the tissue wall. The suture retrieval assembly grabs the suture on the distal side of the tissue membrane for extraction thereof through the opening in the tissue membrane. A method for suturing a membrane beneath the patient's skin is also disclosed.

Apparatus and method for positive closure of an internal tissue membrane opening

A system for treating a patient's heart which comprises a means to form channels in the heart wall and a means to deliver a therapeutic or diagnostic agent into the channels. Additionally, the system may comprise a means to retain the agent within the channels for a useful period of time. The system may be configured to be introduced percutaneously or intraoperatively. The system generally comprises an elongated, flexible lasing transmission means having a laser radiation emitting means and an delivery lumen opening at the distal end. Practice of the invention comprises forming channels in the heart wall and delivering a therapeutic or diagnostic agent into the channel. Gene therapy agents of this invention comprise vectors for transferring genetic information to the heart tissue in vivo or harvested cells which have been genetically engineered in vitro. Additionally, the invention may comprise retaining the agent within the channels, for example, by incorporating the agent in a viscous carrier.

Therapeutic and diagnostic agent delivery

A system and method for treating cardiovascular disease utilizes electromagnetic fields (EMF) applied by non-invasive or minimally invasive procedures. The EMF is applied to existing vascular structure to modulate blood flow and blood vessel growth in the patient. In one embodiment, a structure of electromagnetic coils is placed about a desired treatment zone to apply an EMF to the zone on the order of 10 -10 T. For cardiac angiogenesis, coils can be positioned on the anterior chest wall and on the back at the level of the heart. Various coil configurations are contemplated to yield appropriate field intensities at the treatment zone. In another embodiment, coils can be implanted within the patient and placed within or overlying the treatment zone incorporating several aspects, such as frequency components, the use of ca carrier frequency, pulse shape, duty cycle, and total time exposure to the EMF.
