A process for preparing a particulate vinyl polymer resin and vinyl polymer resin derived therefrom wherein, comprising polymerization in the presence of a dispersant or graft dispersant having no ionic side groups, optionally containing terminal functional groups, said dispersant is derived from repeating units of .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated ester(s) of acrylic and/or methacrylic acid and having a molecular weight average of from about 500 to about 50,000.

Vinyl halide aqueous polymerization dispersant system

A method of preventing or retarding polymer build-up on the internal surfaces of polymerization reactors is provided by this invention. Reduced build-up in vinyl chloride polymerization is obtained by having a phenolic compound coated on the internal surfaces of the reactor vessel and a water phase polymerization inhibitor either combined with the phenolic coating or added to the aqueous polymerization medium. Optionally, a chelating agent is also added with the water phase inhibitor. The process is further enhanced by the presence of water soluble dispersants such as polyvinyl alcohol and methyl cellulose.

Internally coated reaction vessel for use in olefinic polymerization

This invention relates to the use of an organic compound which is a polymerization inhibitor in aqueous suspension polymerization systems for making polymers from olefinic monomers. The inhibitor is added to the aqueous medium prior to the start of or during the reaction. Its use allows a wide range of control throughout the increased reaction rate region and substantially reduces the tailpeak encountered during the aqueous suspension polymerization of olefinic monomers. One example of a suitable inhibitor is 2,2'- methylene bis (4,6-di-tertiary butylphenol).

Process for polymerization of vinyl monomers with improved kinetic rate

The invention covered relates to an improved, solvent-free process for the continuous manufacture of peroxydicarbonate polymerization catalysts. The improvement in the process is the mere decanting of the reaction product through a filtering medium into a separation zone, decanting to a washing zone, decanting to a second separation zone and then taking the product up in an aqueous medium containing a suitable emulsifying agent whereby the resultant initiator or catalyst emulsion can be conveniently and safely stored until ready for use in a polymerization reaction.

Process for producing peroxydicarbonates

A mechanical turning device for structural shapes has a hollow power driven shaft supported on the end of a frame. Turning jaws are located on the end of an extension shaft which fits inside the hollow shaft and rotates with it and is moved in and out by an air cylinder. The device is wheeled into position at the end of a beam, the air cylinder actuated to move the jaws out to engage the beam end, the shaft rotated to the desired position and the jaws are then retracted.
