A multi-piece storage shuttle for removeably securing a storage device within an enclosure assembly includes a stationary shuttle portion rigidly affixed to the enclosure assembly. A moveable shuttle portion is slidably affixed to the enclosure assembly and is configured to releasably engage the storage device.

The present invention provides a computer system comprising an enclosure adapted to contain one or more printed circuit boards, the enclosure including a back plane having a recessed port for coupling a data communication cable to a printed circuit board, the recessed port including a receptacle adapter coupled to the printed circuit board adapted to receive a connector of the data communication cable, and a perpendicular clearance space for facilitating alignment of the connector of the data communication cable with the receptacle.

A magnetic tape drive data storage device includes a plurality of tape guides, wherein each of the plurality of tape guides is adjusted such that magnetic recording tape passes along tape travel surfaces of each of the plurality of tape guides in a desired perpendicular plane. Each of the plurality of tape guides includes a cylindrical shaft which is mounted to a head guide assembly (HGA), and a tape travel surface which co-axially rotates about the shaft as the magnetic recording tape passes along the tape travel surface. To orient the tape travel surface in a desired plane perpendicular to a perpendicularity datum, an adjustment component (e.g., a washer) is slipped over an upper stub portion of the shaft that extends above a flange of the HGA. Once the tape travel surface is oriented in the desired perpendicular plane, the adjustment component is secured to the flange to ensure that the tape travel surface remains in the desired perpendicular plane. Advantageously, this technique substantially improves the manufacturability of the tape drive and provides a tape drive with improved tape tracking performance.

A magnetic tape head actuator assembly has a stepper motor having a threaded output shaft and a bracket for supporting a tape head assembly. The bracket includes a pair of outwardly extending flanges. The flanges each have a bore, whereby the bores are axially aligned and dimensioned to accept the output shaft therethrough. The bracket further has an integral platform portion oriented normal to the threaded output shaft for mounting a tape head assembly. A threaded split nut positioned intermediate the bores is rigidly attached to the bracket and engages the threaded output shaft for movement of the bracket back and forth along the shaft. The nut further has an annular groove encircling its outer perimeter, wherein a circular spring positioned therein provides an inwardly directed compressive force on the nut. A unitary shock suppression sleeve that has a hollow interior portion dimensioned to accept the output shaft of the stepper motor provides an expansion resistant force on the split nut during atypical mechanical shock impacts. Moreover, the shock sleeve is spring biased to adaptively engage the split nut over a reasonable live span of the nut. In the event of a mechanical shock impact, a ramped interior portion of the sleeve provides a reactionary force on the nut for resisting the expansion thereof, thus substantially eliminating, split nut backlash.

A buckling mechanism for improving buckling reliability between a take-up leader and a cartridge leader. The mechanism includes a buckling link, buckling arm and a link driver. The buckling link is biased about one end and includes a protruding portion having a T-shape face at the other end. The combination of the dimensions of the protruding portion and the constant biasing force ensures that the leaders are positioned and remain in position for successful buckling as the tape cartridge is inserted into the tape drive. The buckling link is mounted such that it functions independently of the link driver and buckling arm, enabling the buckling link to maintain the biasing force against the take-up leader even after the buckling arm releases the take-up leader.
