In various embodiments, an improved flexible-composite material is described that comprises at least one scrim constructed from at least two unidirectional tape layers bonded together and at least one woven fabric, non-woven fabric, or membrane bonded to the scrim. In various embodiments, the unidirectional tape layers comprise a plurality of parallel fiber bundles comprising monofilaments within an adhesive resin. In various embodiments, the fiber bundles are separated by gaps that can be filled in by adhesive or non-adhesive resin.

Engineered composite systems

A lightweight laminate comprises: (a) a first outer layer; (b) at least one internal reinforcing layer; (c) optionally, one or more intervening film layers; and (d) a second outer layer, wherein the at least one internal reinforcing layer is disposed between first and second outer layers, and wherein the second outer layer is saturated, partially saturated and coated, or partially coated with a wet-out resin. Reinforcing layers can comprise unitape further comprising parallel monofilaments embedded in resin. An article of manufacture, such as MOLLE, a plate-carrier, or other military, law enforcement, or recreational apparel or gear comprises the light-weight laminate.

The present disclosure encompasses three-dimensional articles comprising flexible composite materials and methods of manufacturing said three-dimensional articles. More particularly, the present system relates to methods for manufacturing seamless three dimensional-shaped articles usable for such finished products as airbags/inflatable structures, bags, shoes, and similar three-dimensional products. A preferred manufacturing process combines composite molding methods with specific precursor materials to form flexible fiber-reinforced continuous shaped articles.

A waterproof breathable material has a higher strength-to-weight ratio and higher tear resistance-to-weight ratio than traditional materials, and may be applied in a wide field of potential uses. A non-woven composite material comprises at least one waterproof breathable (W/B) membrane, a first unidirectional non-woven composite layer having multiple fibers enclosed by adhesive in parallel to each other, a second unidirectional non-woven composite layer having multiple fibers enclosed in adhesive in parallel to each other. The first unidirectional non-woven composite layer is positioned such that the fibers are oriented 90&#xb0; relative to the fibers of the second unidirectional non-woven composite layer, and a space is formed between the first and second multiple fibers. No adhesive is present in the space.
