An information handling system operating a chassis temperature control system may comprise an integrated circuit operatively connected to a proximity sensing strip and a processor, a temperature sensor measuring an exterior temperature of a portion of a chassis of the information handling system adjacent to the proximity sensing strip, and an orientation sensor measuring an orientation of one portion of the chassis to another portion of the chassis to indicate a laptop physical configuration of the information handling system. The integrated circuit may measure a capacitance across the proximity sensing strip such that a high capacitance measurement results in a low skin temperature limit setting, and the processor may execute code instructions of the chassis temperature control system to incrementally decrease a processor power draw limit level based on the exterior temperature measurement exceeding the low skin temperature limit setting.

Method and apparatus for touch sensor based control of information handling system chassis temperature

In accordance with embodiments of the present disclosure, a switch mode power supply may include a transformer, a controller configured to generate a periodic switching signal, a switching transistor coupled between a sense node and the transformer, primarily configured to prevent or permit current flow in the transformer primary winding in accordance with the switching signal, a sense resistor coupled to the switching transistor at a sense node, and a limit circuit configured to obtain a voltage of the sense node at a particular point of the switching period as an indicator of the primary winding current, detect a duration of a demagnetizing interval, and generate a limit signal, based on the sense node voltage and the demagnetizing interval, indicating a power supply output current exceeding a limit threshold.

Over current protection in a variable output power supply

A method is provided for providing indirect voltage detection in a power supply of an IHS. The method may include providing output current and voltage to an IHS via a power cable and monitoring the output current within the power supply. Furthermore, the method may include adjusting the output voltage if the output current reaches a threshold value.

Methods and systems for providing indirect voltage detection in a power supply

An AC-to-DC adapter provides power to information handling systems at different power levels based on the power rating of the information handling system. An adapter manager sets a first lower level at an over current protection circuit unless the information handling system sends identification information that indicates the information handling system is rated to accept a second higher power level, such as by sending a low signal pulse through a serial communication line. While the identification information is present and external power is applied to the adapter, the adapter manager sets a second higher level at an over current protection circuit to allow output of a second higher power level.

System and method for adjusting information handling system over current protection with a common power cable

An AC-DC adapter is provided with an auto-sensing capability to sense when no DC load is present at the output (secondary side) of the adapter by monitoring for absence of load-indicative signals, such as power supply identifier (PSID) signals communicated to the adapter from a coupled DC-powered device. Upon detection of a no load condition, the adapter enters a no load mode during which the adapter output is turned off in order to reduce energy consumption by the adapter, and only produces short recurring voltage pulses (hiccups) at the adapter output. Upon detection of load-indicative signals communicated to the adapter from a coupled DC-powered device, the adapter output enters normal mode and provides its normal regulated power value to the adapter output for powering the coupled DC-powered device.

Systems and methods for controlling energy consumption of AC-DC adapters

An information handling system having a modular DC-DC standby power converter with programmable sequencing. The modular DC-DC standby power converter comprises a plurality of DC inputs and a plurality of DC outputs. The modular DC-DC standby power converter may also be bypassed and/or put into an off-state such that a voltage(s) of at least one output of the converter may then be the same voltage(s) of at least one input. When the modular DC-DC standby power converter is bypassed and/or in the off-state, its outputs may be at a high impedance. The output voltage(s) may be adjusted for specific system requirements. Turn-on and turn-off sequencing of the output voltage(s) may be programmed. The modular DC-DC standby power converter may have short circuit protection.

An information handling system comprises a power supply unit providing a controllable main power supply and a stand-by power supply, a power controller unit receiving the stand-by power supply, and a plurality of sub-systems. Each sub-system comprises a voltage regulator unit being controlled by the power controller unit.

Modular server system

A cam handle assembly for use with a modular information handling system components includes a latch with first protrusion and a second protrusion. The first protrusion is sloped such that when the sloped portion of the first protrusion contacts a portion of a rack or chassis, the latch is urged to a recessed position that will allow the cam handle to move between its closed and open position. The second protrusion on the latch is formed to engage an interface aperture that is formed in the cam handle. The interaction between the latch protrusions, the cam handle and the rack encourage proper operation of the cam handle to install an information handling system component within a rack.

An information handling system comprising at least one power supply unit (PSU), at least one blade server module (BSM) and at least one module monitor board (MMB). The at least one PSU, at least one BSM and the at least one MMB may be removable from the information handling system. The at least one PSU may store in a memory device, e.g., IC device, the most recent power control command and will thereby maintain that most recent power control command when all of the at least one MMBs are removed from or operationally fail in the information handling system.

A method of analyzing power consumption in an information handling system is provided. A voltage associated with a current share signal may be determined. A power load associated with the information handling system may be determined based at least on the determined voltage associated with the current share signal. An indication of the determined power load may be visually displayed.

Analyzing and/or displaying power consumption in redundant servers

A system and method is providing for adjusting the current limit of a power supply. The current limit is set at a level that corresponds to the maximum flow of amperage that is within the bounds of the power characteristics of the input line to the power supply.
