An insertion system includes a handle assembly and a nose assembly removably attached to the handle assembly and including an insertion end. The handle assembly includes a main body, a nose interface and an actuating element. The nose assembly includes a nose, a positioning rod extending from the nose to a distal end, a cutting sheath surrounding a distal end of the positioning rod and including a cutting edge, an actuation member having a proximal end coupled to the actuating element when the nose assembly is attached to the handle assembly and a distal end attached to the cutting sheath, a ventilation tube positioned distal to the distal end of the positioning rod and proximal to the insertion end. The cutting sheath retracts from around the ventilation tube and along the positioning rod when the actuating element on the handle assembly is moved.

Insertion system for deploying a ventilation device

A ventilation tube includes a hollow main portion having an inner wall, an outer wall, a distal end and a proximal end. The outer wall defines an outer wall width dimension. At least one distal member is coupled to and extends from the distal end and has an outer end. At least one proximal member is coupled to and extends from the main portion and has an outer end. In an undeployed state, the outer end of the at least one proximal member is more greatly spaced apart from the outer wall width dimension than the outer end of the at least one distal member. In a deployed state the outer end of the at least one distal member changes in position relative to the outer wall width dimension and the outer end of the at least one proximal member remains unchanged relative to the outer wall width dimension.

Ventilation device and insertion system therefor

An electric blanket including a flexible sheet-like heating element, a shell comprising two flexible sheets covering the heating element, one or more welds coupling the sheet of the shell about the edges to hermetically seal the heating element there between; and a flexible insulating layer extending over the heating element and covered by the shell providing at least one of thermal insulation and electrical insulation, wherein the heating element is held in position between the two sheets of the shell without using connectors that pierce the two sheets.

Heating blanket

An electric blanket or pad for warming a living body including a flexible sheet-like heating element including an upper edge, a lower edge, and at least two side edges. A shell formed of layers of flexible sheets covering the heating element and sealed with a weld. The weld coupling the sheets of the shell about the edges to hermetically seal the heating element therebetween. The weld may be an RF weld, ultrasonic weld, or a heat bond, wherein the sheets comprise PVC.

Electric heating blanket or pad

A loading device is configured to load a ventilation tube into an inserter device. The loading device includes a main body and at least one protruding member extending from the main body and terminating at a loading tip. An elongated hollow body has a first end, a second end, an inner wall and an outer wall. The elongated hollow body surrounds the at least one protruding member such that at least a portion of an outer facing surface of the protruding member engages with an inner wall of the elongated hollow body. A ventilation tube engages with the loading tip of the protruding member and is at least partially located within the elongated hollow body.

A ventilation device includes a hollow body having a main portion, at least one distal member coupled to a distal end of the main portion and at least one proximal member coupled to a proximal end of the main portion. The at least one distal member is formed of a shape memory material. The hollow body includes a deployed state for maintaining an opening in an anatomical structure and an undeployed state. The shape memory material forms the at least one distal member into a deployed position. The shape memory material is reversibly deformed from the deployed state into the undeployed state such that at least the distal member changes in shape to an undeployed position, while the main portion of the hollow body remains unchanged.

A multi-zone electric heating blanket. The blanket may be shaped to cover the outstretched arms or other body parts of a patient. The blanket includes first and second body part portions and a connecting bridge. The interconnection via the bridge leaves an open gap between the first and second body part portions for unblocked access to the patient. A power controller may supply power to heating elements in both body part portions based on a temperature sensor in one of the body part portions.

Multi-zone electric warming blanket

A device performs a myringotomy and includes a main body oriented along a central axis. The main body includes an attachment hub for receiving components that provide suction. A hollow positioning member extends at least partially along the central axis, is coupled to the main body and includes a distal end. A cutting edge is located at the distal end of the hollow positioning member and is configured to pierce a tympanic membrane of a body. A sampling chamber is coupled to the main body for collecting at least a portion of the fluid located behind the tympanic membrane of the body using the components that provide suction at the attachment hub. A diagnostic indicator is housed in the sampling chamber and includes a visible indication of a test outcome when exposed to the fluid collected in the sampling chamber.

A blanket for warming patients during surgery and other medical procedures. The blanket includes one or more temperature sensors and a shut-off timer to prevent prolonged exposure of excessive heat to a patient. Embodiments of the present invention provide a safety feature that cuts power to a heating blanket after a certain period of time has elapsed, irrespective of the feedback provided by a temperature sensor concerning the blanket temperature. That period of time is longer than it takes for the blanket to reach its threshold temperature but shorter than it takes to cause thermal burn injury.
