A security system which includes remotely controlled entrance monitors (12) to indicate when an intrusion has occurred, an arming/disarming control (18), a console (14) responsive to the entrance monitors and arming/disarming control, and an alarm (16) responsive to the console for audibly indicating intrusion. These components are completely wireless with one another. Radio coded signals are transmitted between components requiring a coded combination between the console and entrance monitors, and a coded combination between the console (14) and alarm (16) and arming/disarming control (18). The arming/disarming control (18) includes an arming button (20) for arming the system and a disarming button (22) for disarming the system with a slideable protective cover thereover to prevent accidental depression of either button.

Remotely controlled security system

The invention is a remotely controlled ceiling fan and light assembly. Control of the assembly is accomplished by a transmitter (22) having a motor control button (26) and a light control button (24) to be depressed to control the fan (14) and light (18) on the assembly respectively. The motor control button (26) may be depressed for an extended time to reverse the direction of the fan (14). The transmitter (22) transmits a digitally coded radio signal wherein the coding is consumer selectable through switches. The receiver (20) on the fan and light assembly decodes (44) the pulses to ensure proper detection thereof. The eighth pulse of the radio coded signals indicates whether motor (16) or light (18) control is required. The receiver (20) includes a light control circuit (58) and motor control circuit (60) responsive to the decoded signal to control illumination of the light (18) and rotational speed and direction of the motor (16), respectively.

Digital oem ceiling fan

The circuit includes a super regenerative detector (12) for receiving a modulated radio frequency signal from a transmitter. The output of the super regenerative detector is amplified and sent into a high frequency interpreter circuit (16, 18, 20) which de-modulates the signal creating an output of low frequency equal to the consecutive pulses frequency. The low frequency signal is received by a low frequency interpreter circuit (22, 24, 26) which outputs a digital signal of a single duration which is received by a counter circuit (30). The counter circuit (30) controls the firing of a triac (T1) to create lighting conditions of on, off and dimming.

Two-tone dimmer circuit

A day/night rearview mirror comprises an optical medium which is electrically driven between transmissive and opaque states. The mirror comprises a housing containing a circuit board assembly over which a mirrored reflecting surface is disposed. The mirrored reflecting surface is in turn overlaid by an optical transmission plate containing the optical medium. The transmission plate, mirror and circuit board are retained on the housing by means of a bezel. Electrical conductivity from the circuit board to the transmission plate is provided by helical coiled spring conductors which are conveniently supported in sleeves integrally formed with a retaining frame for the mirrored reflecting surface of the mirror. The circuit board contains a circuit for controlling the optical transmission plate and suitable controls which are accessible to the user to adjust certain operational characteristics of the mirror assembly. It also includes a pair of photodetectors forming sensors which sense general ambient lighting conditions and incident light from the field of view, respectively. The sensors are coupled in electronic input circuits to a logic gate. The output of the logic gate controls the optical transmission plate. The transmission plate is forced to an opaque condition only when both a nighttime ambient condition is sensed and there are also bright lights form the field of view incident upon the mirrored reflecting surface. The circuits impose certain timing requirements on changes in sensed conditions so that the mirror does not change state in response to momentary departures form generally prevailing conditions.

Day/night mirror

A rearview mirror system comprises an electrically controlled optical transmission plate disposed over a reflecting surface. The optical transmission plate is selectively operable to any of a number of different states of opaqueness between a maximum light transmission and a maximum opaqueness. The opaqueness of the optical transmission plate is controlled by an electronic circuit which includes two sensors, one for sensing the brightness of incident light from the field of view and the other for sensing ambient light. The control operates to cause the light which is incident on the reflecting surface to be closed loop regulated to a desired degree of brightness which is also correlated with ambient light conditions. A manually operable adjustment is also provided for the observer to set a desired brightness characteristic.

Liquid crystal closed-loop controlled mirror systems

A shading system comprising a liquid crystal panel made up of individual zones. The panel is illustrated in application to a motor vehicle sunroof to provide selective shading of the interior of the vehicle passenger compartment. A control system is associated with the zones of the liquid crystal panel to develop particular shading patterns by the selective energization of particular zones. Manual controls may be used to establish the desired shading pattern, and an automatic control capability is also provided whereby once a desired shading pattern has been set by use of the manual controls, the automatic control can energize the appropriate zones as the relative position of the sun to the vehicle changes so that the same interior space as originally set continues to be shaded. A joy stick controls the position of the shade, a size potentiometer controls the size of the shade, and a density potentiometer controls the degree of opaqueness of the shade.

A liquid crystal panel shading system is disclosed in which the light transmission characteristics of a liquid crystal panel are varied to produce desired shading effects. The preferred embodiment is disclosed in the application to a windshield sun visor for an automotive vehicle. The panel may be a separate element applied against the existing windshield or it may be integrally incorporated into the windshield. The panel is constructed with a tapered shape, which in association with a control, is effective to produce zones of varying light transmission characteristics to produce new and unique modes of shading.

Liquid crystal panel shade

A low-power transmitter for garage door operator systems and the like wherein harmonics of the fundamental frequency are suppressed by class A or AB oscillator operation and fundamental radiation is enhanced by way of a combined inductor/radiator having conductive printed circuit extrusions on the ends thereof to effectively form a center-fed dipole antenna.

Integrated oscillator antenna for low power, low harmonic radiation

An FM demodulator wherein the input signal excursions advance a counter. At each of a sequence of equal sample times, the count is compared to a value which is the average of the highest and lowest counts during the sequence. The comparison may be numerically direct or by down-counting from a present number. The result of the comparison sets an output data value either '1' or '0'.

FM Signal demodulator

A ceiling mounted fan and light assembly remotely controlled by radio signals propagated by a remote transmitter with the transmitter having independent controls for the fan and light respectively. The receiver has two channels and is responsive to the signals for setting the power supplied to the fan drive motor and light respectively at different levels so that the rotational speed of the fan may be set at various different levels and the illumination of the light may be set at various different levels.

Remotely controlled ceiling fan and light circuit

A dual purpose integrated circuit device which can be utilized both as an encoder for providing digital signals according to a preselected code and as a decoder for comparing a received signal with an internally generated digitally coded signal. The device includes a plurality of input/output ports for making an electrical connection between external circuitry and functional portions of the device. The device includes a pulse generator for providing digital signals at its output according to a preselected code. The output of the generator is coupled to an output port for supplying the digital signals to a transmitter when used in the encoding mode, and provides the internally generated comparison code in the decoder mode. Improved circuitry is provided for selectively adjusting the level of security for a system utilizing the device in a transmitter-receiver system for activating a load such as a garage door opener, as well as for accommodating noise levels which may be encountered in authorized use.

Combination encoder-decoder integrated circuit device

A data communication system for selectively activating a plurality of remote loads. The system includes a transmitter having an encoder with first and second sets of inputs. The encoder provides a multi-bit pulse train for transmission to a receiver. Selected bits of the pulse train are associated with the first set of inputs to the encoder and define an address code. Other bits of the transmitted pulse train are associated with the second set of encoder inputs and define data. A receiver incorporates a decoder coupled for receipt of the pulse train from the transmitter. A set of code select inputs for the decoder defines a local address code for the receiver. A pulse generator provides a local pulse train which is a function of the code select inputs. A comparator normally operates to compare all of the bits in the local pulse train with those in the received pulse train from the transmitter, with the comparator output preventing load actuation unless all of the bits match. However, logic circuitry is provided for selectively preventing the comparator from comparing the bits in the received pulse train defining data with corresponding bit positions in the local pulse train. Selected loads are then activated according to the states of the data bits in the received pulse train if the address code portions of the local and received pulse trains match.

Data communication system for activating remote loads

A decoder circuit for selectively activating external loads which finds particular utility in automatic garage door operators. The coincidence of a repeatedly received digital word code with an internally generated local code results in a matched signal, each of the matched signals being stored in an accumulator device. A free running oscillator is used to reset the accumulator if a predetermined number of successive clock pulses are generated without an intervening matched signal. If a given plurality of matched signals are received and stored in the accumulator before it is reset, the accumulator will provide an output signal to a latch which activates the load. Once set, the output latch will not be reset unless a subsequent given number of successive clock pulses are generated without an intervening matched signal. In such manner, the decoder circuitry accommodates a limited number of mismatches possibly due to interference while still maintaining significant security aspects of the decoder circuitry. The resetting of the output latch will not occur immediately upon the occurence of a subsequent mismatch but is delayed to prevent the double trip condition often encountered in the automatic garage door operator field.

Decoder circuitry for selectively activating loads

An arrangement of rear view mirrors for a motor vehicle including a pair of mirror assemblies positioned to extend the areas of vision to the right and left rear sides of the motor vehicle. Each mirror assembly is normally nonreflective and includes a liquid crystal solution which covers a mirrored surface and which is responsive to the presence or absence of an electrical charge to render the mirror assembly reflective. Each angled mirror assembly is activated by operation of the turn signal system to provide the operator of the vehicle with an extended area of view to the rear side of the vehicle that corresponds to the direction in which the vehicle is to travel.

Wide angled rear view mirror apparatus

A magnetic proximity sensing apparatus for sensing ferro-magnetic objects is especially well adapted for use with fluid cylinders having pistons formed from magnetically attracted material. The apparatus includes a magnetic actuator responsive to the proximity of the fluid cylinder piston or other ferro-magnetic object which closes a switch and enables electrical circuitry for controlling fluid valves or other apparatus. A reed switch mounted within a hollow, cylindrical, permanent magnet has a separate pole piece secured at one end of the reed switch. The proximity of a ferro-magnetic object changes the flux within the magnet, closing the reed switch. The circuitry is solid state and includes a silicon controlled rectifier acting as a gated switch for completing the circuit.
