A method for producing a two-component bonding agent composition. The method uses a mixture whose first component contains: (i) 50 to 98 wt % of a hydroxy-terminated polyester having a hydroxyl number from 50 to 350 and hydroxyl functionality from 2 to 3; (ii) 1 to 30 wt % of an epoxy resin having an epoxy equivalent weight from 500 to 4000; and (iii) 1 to 20 wt % of an organic alkoxysilane containing C-Calkoxy groups. The second component contains a multi-functional isocyanate having an isocyanate functionality from 1.8 to 4; wherein the second component is present relative to the first component at a molar ratio of NCO/OH groups of 0.9:1 to 3:1.

Laminating adhesive for retort pouches

A process is provided for the manufacture of liquid polysulfide polymers. In particular, the process allows for making the liquid form of the polysulfide polymer directly and eliminates the need to first make a solid polysulfide polymer and then convert it to a liquid.

Preparation of polysulfide compositions

An insulated glass sealant having the best characteristics of polysulfides and polyurethanes rather than the worst is made from a polysulfide-based polyurethane prepared by a one-step procedure wherein a randomly copolymeric hydroxyl-terminated polysulfide polyacetal is reacted with a polyisocyanate at a ratio of from about 1:1 to about 1:1.2 on an equivalents basis. The copolymeric hydroxyl-terminated polysulfide polyacetal is made by the condensation of formaldehyde with a mixture of a dithiodialkylene glycol and an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic diol.

Polysulfide-based polyurethane sealant for insulating glass

The peel strength of lightweight, liquid polysulfide-based sealants for aircraft is improved by the addition of an epoxy-terminated liquid polysulfide to the liquid polysulfide. The lightweight sealants have a specific gravity of from about 1 to about 1.3 and the amount of epoxide terminated polysulfide is from about 0.4 to about 5% of the weight of the polysulfide present in the sealant. Fillers having a specific gravity of from about 0.1 to about 2.2 are used.

Lightweight sealant having improved peel strength

A thermoplastic elastomer is made by the reaction of an epoxy resin with a liquid mercapto-terminated polysulfide wherein the ratio of epoxy equivalents in the epoxy resin to mercapto equivalents is from about 0.6 to about 0.98, with the proviso that when the ratio is greater than about 0.95:1, the polysulfide is further reacted with an amount of a mono-epoxy compound sufficient to raise the ratio of total epoxy equivalents to mercapto equivalents to a maximum of 1:1. An elastomer having residual --SH groups is air-curable. The elastomer is useful as a hot melt sealant for insulated window units.

The moisture vapor transmission rates of sealants containing liquid polysulfides made from mixtures of a hexylene dihalide and a chloroethyl formal wherein the molar ratio is from about 1.5:1 to about 2.3:1 are extremely low. A preferred ratio is 0.64:0.36. The new liquid polysulfide is useful in conventional sealant formulations for insulated glass window units.
