The present invention includes new compositions for making polyurethane and polyurethane foam compositions. These compositions comprise the reaction product of an isocyanate A-Side and a B-Side comprising: (i) a polyol having a molecular weight of about 1000 g/mol or more, and having an average functionality of 2.0 or greater; (ii) a polyol having a Tg of about &minus;80&deg; C. or less, and having a molecular weight of about 1000 g/mol or more, and having an average functionality of 2.0 or greater; and(iii) a polyhydric alcohol having a molecular weight of about 90 g/mol or more, and having an average functionality of 3.0 or more. In the case of polyurethane foam compositions, the system also comprises water. The invention also includes processes for making the polyurethane and polyurethane foam compositions, as well as methods of adhering the same to cosmetic layers comprising thermoplastic, acrylic, and gel coat materials. The invention also includes articles made from these reinforced cosmetic layers.

Low volatile reinforcing system

The present invention is drawn to a polyurethane-polyester hybrid resin system wherein the components of the system have improved shelf life stability. The resin system comprises an A-Side comprising a multifunctional isocyanate and a free radical initiator. The hybrid resin system also comprises a B-Side comprising a hydroxyl-terminated unsaturated polyester polyol, an ethylenically unsaturated monomer, a polyurethane catalyst, a polymerization inhibitor, and optionally a peroxide promoter, chain extender and filler. The B-Side polymerization inhibitor of the present invention comprises substituted hindered phenol-type compounds with ring substituents producing activated benzylic hydrogens, nitrophenols with or without benzylic-type substituents, naphthoquinones, stabilized radical compounds, and mixtures thereof.

Polyurethane-polyester hybrid resin system having improved stability

An isocyanate composition is made by using a 2-component catalyst system--one which initiates at room temperature and one which initiates at a temperature of at least 75.degree. C. and has a one-hour half-life temperature of at least 90.degree. C.; the composition has a room temperature stability of at least thirty days.

Catalyst system for adherent rigid foam

A thermosetting unsaturated polyester-polyurethane hybrid foam resin composition is made without significant blistering by using a 2-component catalyst system--one which initiates at room temperature and one which initiates at a temperature of at least 75.degree. C. and has a one-hour half-life temperature of at least 90.degree. C.; the composition has a room temperature stability of at least thirty days.
