The present invention relates to compositions and use of water-soluble or water-dispersible copolymers for oil field applications. Specifically, the present invention relates to polymers containing allyloxy linkage andits functional dervatives for use in oil field applications as fluid additives for drilling and cementing processes.

The present invention relates to compositions and use of water-soluble or water-dispersible copolymers for oil field applications. Specifically, the present invention relates to polymers containing allyloxy linkage and its functional dervatives for use in oil field applications as fluid additives for drilling and cementing processes.

Disclosed are methods for reducing turbidity of aqueous systems and clarifying wastewater systems utilizing a graft copolymer having the structure: ##STR1## whereby the cationic monomer (F) is represented by ##STR2## wherein R is hydrogen or a C.sub.1 to C.sub.3 alkyl group, R.sub.1 is the salt of an ammonium cation, and the molar percentage of a:b is from about 95:5 to about 5:95, with the proviso that the sum of a and b equals 100%.

A treatment for controlling the deposition of scale imparting species on the structural surfaces of steam generating systems, wherein the aqueous medium is maintained at a pH which minimizes magnetite solubility, comprising the use of a combination of an organic amine and a nonionic polymer having the structure: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is H or lower (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4) alkyl, R.sub.2 is (CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --O).sub.n, ##STR2## or a mixture of both, n is an integer of from 1 to about 40, and R.sub.3 is H, lower (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4) alkyl or an acetate.

Nonionic polymers for the treatment of boiler water

A method for controlling the deposition of silica on the structural surfaces of steam generating systems comprising the use of a water soluble polymer having the structure ##STR1## wherein E is the repeat unit remaining after polymerization of an alpha, beta ethylenically unsaturated compound. This polymer may also be used in concert with topping agents such as phosphoric acids, phosphonic acids, polyvalent metal salts, metal chelating agents and oxygen scavengers.

A method of dewatering sludge is disclosed. This method comprises adding to the sludge an effective amount for the purpose of a polymer comprising repeat unit moieties of the compound methacryloyloxyethyl trimethyl ammonium chloride, said polymer having an intrinsic viscosity of about 1.0 to about 4.5 dl/g.

A method of dewatering sludge is disclosed. This method comprises adding to the sludge an effective amount for the purpose of a polymer comprising repeat unit moieties of the compound methacryloxyethyl trimethyl ammonium chloride, said polymer having an intrinsic viscosity of about 1.0 to about 4.5 dl/g.

Novel water soluble polymers containing an hydroxyl alkyl aminoalkylene phosphonate functionality are disclosed. These polymers have utility as deposit control agents effective in a number of water systems such as cooling, boilers conversion coating, paper and pulp processing and gas scrubbing. The polymers are formed from the polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated compounds with a compound having the structure: ##STR1## in which R.sub.1 is an hydroxyl substituted or nonsubstituted lower alkylene group, R.sub.2 is H or lower alyl group, R.sub.3 is a lower alkylene group and M is H or water soluble cation.

Water soluble phosphonated polymers

Novel water soluble polymers containing an hydroxyl alkyl aminoalkylene phosphonate functionality are disclosed. These polymers have utility as deposit control agents effective in a number of water systems such as cooling, boilers conversion coating, paper and pulp processing and gas scrubbing. The polymers are formed from the polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated compounds with a compound having the structure: ##STR1## in which R.sub.1 is an hydroxyl substituted or nonsubstituted lower alkylene group, R.sub.2 is H or lower alkyl group, R.sub.3 is a lower alkylene group and M is H or water soluble cation.
