A image recognition device using pattern elements is disclosed. The device comprises an image recognition device, a recording medium, and an image processing device which is be capable of executing recognition processing accurately and evaluating an input image even when the input image data is a different size because the input image has been magnified or reduced. To achieve the objectives, the image recognition device of this invention has a pattern element recognizing means to recognize the pattern elements obtained by dividing the input image into a plurality of regions which are compared with corresponding target pattern elements, and a pattern detection means to detect the relative position of the pattern elements, which determines whether the pattern elements detected by the pattern element recognizing means are arranged properly with respect to each other.

Image recognition-processing device and method using pattern elements

The object of this invention is to provide an image processing device and image input device which creates strong features, or enhanced pattern which could be recognized when the image was read and which would prove difficult to eliminate through subsequent image processing. When the image is generated at the later step, these features would be easily recognized by the processing according to this invention because the image is equipped with the enhanced pattern which is easy to detect. In order to achieve this object, the image processing device according to this invention is equipped with a data synthesizing unit to synthesize the clear target pattern on the candidate target pattern which is not fully clear when the recognition unit has detected a pattern similar to the target pattern.

Fluctuation information produced by a fluctuation producing portion () is superimposed on given image data by a fluctuation superimposing portion (). The superimposed image data where the fluctuation information is superimposed is subjected to an image recognition process by an image recognition portion (). The results of the image recognition are sent to a printer body through a recognition result outputting portion (). Even if the given image data is the same, fluctuation is superimposed, and therefore the image data on an object to be recognized is altered. As a result, the possibility of a recognition error is suppressed as much as possible.

A printer () prints image data received from a personal computer (). The printer stores a recognition program, which is installed for the printer driver of the personal computer. The personal computer executes the received recognition program to carry out recognition. Upon detecting a specific image, the personal computer instructs the printer to discontinue the printing operation. An image processing system is thus provided which prohibits the printer from producing printout if the personal computer connected with the printer detects a prohibited image.

An ultrasonic wave receiver receives an ultrasonic wave outputted by an ultrasonic wave oscillator, and outputs a receiving signal. A level determining unit makes a determination as to the presence or absence of a sheet of paper based upon a level of the receiving signal. A CPU is informed of this determining signal through a processing unit. An oscillation peak detector detects a peak value of a transmission signal used for controlling an ultrasonic wave transmitter, which is transmitted from an oscillation amplifier. A receiving peak detector detects a peak value of the receiving signal received by the ultrasonic transmitter. The phase difference of the two signals is detected based upon the difference in count values of a loop counter between the timing in which the peak value of the transmission signal is detected and the timing in which the peak value of the receiving signal is detected. The number of times in which the phase difference has exceeded a predetermined range is counted by a determining counter, and when the count value exceeds a reference value, it is determined that a plurality of sheets of paper are superimposed. Thus, it becomes possible to positively detect a doubles feeding of sheets.

Sheet double feeding detector, method and program of such a device

A computer ( ) has a function of controlling operation of an image recognition unit ( ) for counterfeiting prevention in a printer ( ). According to this function, a control signal (S ) for instructing operation of the image recognition unit is output to the printer when the type of a command (C ) received from an application ( ) is a command type of an image as an object of counterfeiting prevention, while the control signal is not output when the type of the received command is not the command type of an image as an object of counterfeiting prevention. The printer has a function of operating the image recognition unit for image data (D ) applied from the computer only when the control signal is received from the computer. Therefore, in a print system using the computer and the printer equipped with the image recognition unit for counterfeiting prevention, the probability of falsely recognizing even an image irrelevant to counterfeiting to be an image as an object of counterfeiting prevention is lowered, and the printing-out speed is improved as a whole.

An non-reproducible image formation preventing apparatus has a recognition section, a storage section and a comparison/determination section. The recognition section performs recognition processing for received image data, determines whether or not the image data is an non-reproducible image, and outputs the determination result to an image formation section. The storage section stores non-reproducible image data recognized as an non-reproducible image by the recognition section. The comparison/determination section compares the non-reproducible image data stored in the storage section with an image based on input image data given through an image process section and finding a match degree therebetween. If either of the comparison/determination section and the recognition section determines that the image is an non-reproducible image, a detection signal is sent to the image formation section for stopping normal print. Since the data is digital data, stored non-reproducible images are also stable and a determination can be made at high speed.
