A liquid crystal display device includes an active matrix substrate, a counter substrate, and a liquid crystal layer. The active matrix substrate includes a top gate type oxide semiconductor TFT a plurality of gate wiring lines a plurality of source and an interlayer insulating layer The counter substrate includes a plurality of columnar spacers provided on a second substrate. Each columnar spacer is disposed in an intersecting region where the gate wiring line and the source wiring line intersect. A front face of the active matrix substrate on the liquid crystal layer side includes a plurality of first ridges overlapping the plurality of gate wiring lines and a plurality of second ridges overlapping the plurality of source wiring lines.

Liquid crystal display device

A display device for a head-mounted display includes a first display panel and a second display panel that are arranged in parallel. The first display panel and second display panel each include a pair of substrates having a plane sectioned into a display region and a non-display region, and a columnar spacer interposed between the substrates. The substrate includes a spacer lightproof portion placed over the spacer. The first display panel and second display panel do not coincide with each other with regard to a location where the spacer lightproof portion in the display region is disposed.

A liquid crystal display device () according to the present invention includes an active matrix substrate (); a counter substrate (); and a liquid crystal layer (). Each of pixels (P) includes sub pixels (Spa, Spb) respectively having liquid crystal capacitances (CLa, CLb) and storage capacitances (CCa, CCb). A gate bus line (Lg) includes gate lines (Lga, Lgb) electrically connected to gates of thin film transistors () and a connection line (Lgc) for electrically connecting the gate line (Lga) and the gate line (Lgb) to each other. An active matrix liquid crystal display device includes: a liquid crystal layer; two substrates sandwiching the liquid crystal layer; and electrodes respectively provided in the two substrates, the electrodes applying voltage across the liquid crystal layer. A first electrode () in the substrate including a pixel selecting element () has a striped electrode pattern () aligning liquid crystal molecules along a stripe line direction when voltage is applied across the liquid crystal layer. A contact () of the first electrode () with the selecting element () is formed in a region opposed to, along a film thickness direction, a first region to which a signal liner (GLi) is allocated. A liquid crystal display device comprises plural picture elements including a first picture element and a second picture element; plural switching elements; and plural scanning lines. The plural switching elements include a first switching element electrically connected to the first picture element and a second switching element electrically connected to the second picture element. The plural scanning lines include a first scanning line electrically connected to the first switching element and a second scanning line electrically connected to the second switching element. The second scanning line is located between at least part of the first picture element and the first scanning line. The first scanning line is located between at least part of the second picture element and the second scanning line.

A shield electrode is provided in the vicinity of a pixel electrode and source bus lines. The shield electrode may be provided in the same layer as gate bus lines, or in the same layer as the source bus lines. The shield electrode may be surrounded by an insulating material, or may be connected to a line other than the source bus lines. By providing the shield electrode, it is possible to reduce a source-drain parasitic capacitance between a pixel electrode and a source bus line.

In the liquid crystal display, each pixel electrode () of a liquid crystal panel is constituted by combining at least two sub-pixel electrodes (), and each sub-pixel electrode () is connected through a bridge () narrower than the sub-pixel electrode (). A vertically aligned system in which liquid crystal molecules tilt symmetrically to the central axis of orientation in the direction perpendicular to the surface of each sub-pixel electrode () upon application of a voltage is employed. The bridge () is provided at a position asymmetric to the sub-pixel electrode ().

Liquid crystal display and method for manufacturing same

Realizes a structure for a transreflective liquid crystal display device in which one pixel is defined by four or more picture elements, the structure providing a high aperture ratio and being suitable for display for which the transmission mode is prioritized. A liquid crystal display device according to the present invention is a transreflective liquid crystal display device, comprising a plurality of picture elements including a first picture element, a second picture element, a third picture element and a fourth picture element for displaying different colors from one another; in which each of the plurality of picture elements includes a transmission area for providing display in a transmission mode and a reflection area for providing display in a reflection mode. Each picture element includes a mesh portion shaped to be meshable with an adjacent picture element; and the reflection area of each picture element is located in the mesh portion.

In a multi-gap semi-transmissive liquid crystal display device, the width of a black matrix () is made larger above the region between adjacent ITO transparent electrodes () and is made smaller above the region between adjacent Al reflective electrodes (). This enables a transmissive portion to offer a display with high contrast that does not suffer from afterimage or the like by shielding light from the domain lying between the adjacent pixels, and the reflective portion to offer a brighter display by increasing the aperture ratio thereof by making the black matrix width as small as possible or forming no black matrix.

A first electrode substrate of the present invention includes a first signal line, a second signal line, a third signal line, a first pixel electrode, a second pixel electrode, and a third pixel electrode. The first signal line, the second signal line and the third signal line extend in a first direction and in parallel to one another. The first pixel electrode is electrically connected to the first signal line. The second pixel electrode is adjacent to the first pixel electrode in the first direction, and is electrically connected to the second signal line. The third pixel electrode is adjacent to the second pixel electrode in the row direction, crossing the first direction, via the second signal line therebetween, and is electrically connected to the third signal line. A capacitance value of a parasitic capacitor formed between the first pixel electrode and the second pixel electrode is smaller than a capacitance value of a parasitic capacitor formed between the first pixel electrode and the third pixel electrode.
