In a television, which can be connected to a portable information terminal, it is possible to display video based on the data of a multimedia file stored on a storage medium even in cases where there is no built-in decoder. In cases where a TV itself does not possess a decoder which can decode the data of a multimedia file selected by the user from the multimedia files stored on the USB memory, the CPU of the TV transmits to a smartphone the data of the selected multimedia file and a decoding request command to request that the data be decoded, thus receiving a video signal and/or an audio signal obtained by various types of decoders of the smartphone. Consequently, the CPU of the TV can output video and/or audio to a display unit and a speaker on the basis of the data of the selected multimedia file.

Television

A digital broadcast recording device includes a receiving component, a program information memory component, a first setting component, a second setting component, an extraction component and a recording execution component. The first setting component sets a recording condition based on a first operation input. The recording condition indicates whether to record program information corresponding to one physical channel, or to record program information corresponding to a subset of a specific number of sub-channels included in the one physical channel. The second setting component sets a channel number corresponding to the subset of the specific number of the sub-channels based on a second operation input. The extraction component extracts the program information corresponding to the subset of the specific number of the sub-channels set by the second setting component. The recording execution component records the program information to the program information memory component.

Digital broadcast recording device

There is provided a digital broadcast receiving apparatus capable of notifying a user that an item in itself exists even if a blank exists in the name portion of an item in the variable RRT to prevent the user from omitting setting. The microcomputeracquires a rating region table (RRT) from a transport steam (TS) signal and attaches a flag capable of restricting viewing to each level in the RTT based on inputs entered by a user while displaying the RTT on a screen. If rating information including the TS signal expresses the level on which the flag capable of restricting viewing is attached, viewing of a program including the rating information is restricted, a blank in the level, item and table names included in the RRT is detected and the detected blank is substituted with a predetermined character string.

Digital broadcast receiving apparatus

In a terrestrial digital TV broadcast signal receiver capable of EPG (Electric Program Guide) display, EPG data are updated in a time as smaller as possible while a use does not watch any TV program, so that the EPG can be displayed in real time just after switching on of an electric power of the terrestrial digital TV broadcast signal receiver. When the electric power is switched off, an EPG data of a channel which will be lost the earliest is searched among the EPG data stored in the memory, and a time of day when the EPG data of the searched channel is lost is calculated. When a time for taking new EPG data reaches, the tuner is tuned to the channel, and a TV broadcast signal is received and a new EPG data is extracted from the received TV broadcast signal and stored in the memory.

Terrestrial digital TV broadcast signal receiver

A digital/analogue TV receiver having a function for displaying an EGP screen comprises a controller for displaying the EPG (electric program guide) screen including channels and TV program information on a display apparatus, and a memory for storing a channel map memorizing the TV program information correspondingly to the channels. The controller renews the channel map stored in the memory with using VCT (virtual channel table) information and EIT (event information table) information which are delivered with the TV broadcasting signals while image signals of a TV program is outputted to the display apparatus. The controller uses the TV program information memorized in the channel map stored in the memory when the EPG screen is displayed on the display apparatus.

Digital/analogue TV receiver that renews a channel map using event information and virtual channel tables

At a starting of a summer time, an indication 'D.S.T.' is displayed on an EPG screen with a deleted time zone in a different background color from other time zones. The deleted time zone is displayed in a flashed manner, and 'D.S.T.START' is indicated at a start time of the summer time. At an end of the summer time, a time indicating a repeated time zone is displayed in a flashed manner on an EPG screen, and &#x201c;D.S.T.END&#x201d; is indicated at an end time of the summer time. When a user makes a reservation in a deleted time or repeated time zone, it is displayed that the reservation is invalid on the EPG screen.

Video signal receiver with daylight savings time transition support

When a user commands a microprocessor, using a remote control, to output information about a video and audio signal output device itself to a monitor device, the microprocessor superimposes, on video signals decoded by a decoder, video signals of a terminal connection information image for displaying, on the monitor device, color images corresponding to output signals from respective output terminals of red (R), green (G) and blue (B) in a VGA terminal or a BNC terminal so as to form and output combined video signals to the monitor device. Thus, e.g. if the monitor device has multiple video signal input terminals for inputting output signals from the respective output terminals of R, G and B, and if no signal is input from one of the input terminals, the user can confirm the input terminal, from which no signal is input, by just watching the screen of the monitor device without confirming the actual connection of the input terminals.

Video and audio signal output device

A TV receiver comprises: a tuner connected to a unidirectional antenna or a smart antenna; a reception control unit for outputting, to the tuner, a channel control signal to command a channel, and outputting, to the smart antenna, a receiving direction control signal to command a receiving direction; and an antenna selection switch for a user to select the either antenna. The reception control unit switches its control mode between a unidirectional antenna mode and a smart antenna mode. In the unidirectional antenna mode, the reception control unit outputs a channel control signal to the tuner. In the smart antenna mode, the reception control unit outputs the channel control signal and the receiving direction control signal to the tuner and the smart antenna, respectively, for controlling the TV signal reception. This TV receiver can properly switch the antenna control mode, depending on the kind of antenna selected by the user.
