There is provided a thermosetting powder coating composition comprising (A1) a fluorine-containing copolymer and (B) a curing agent, in which the copolymer contains, as essential structural units, a fluoroolefin unit, an alkene unit and cyclohexyl vinyl ether unit and/or p-tertiary butyl vinyl benzoate unit, has a sum of cyclohexyl vinyl ether unit and p-tertiary butyl vinyl benzoate unit of from 5 to 45% by mole, has a thermal transition temperature of from 45&#xb0; to 120&#xb0; C. and has a crosslinkable reaction group. The thermosetting powder coating composition is excellent in storage stability and provides a coating film possessing a smooth surface and enhanced impact resistance.

There is provided the process for effectively preparing the fluorine-containing polymer without using CFC and HCFC which have a high polymerization rate and a high ozone depletion potential and a coating film having excellent mechanical properties, solvent resistance and chemical resistance can be formed using the obtained fluorine-containing polymer. In preparing the fluorine-containing polymer by polymerizing a monomer containing a fluoroolefin in a polymerization medium, the fluorine-containing solvent having an ozone depletion potential of 0 and a solubility of hydroxybutyl vinyl ether of not less than 0.5% is used as the polymerization medium.

A thermosetting fluorine-containing resin powder coating composition prepared by mixing a fine powder of silicon oxide having an average particle size of {fraction (1/100)} or less of that of a powder of fluorine-containing resin powder coating composition in an amount of 0.01 to 5 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the powder of fluorine-containing resin powder coating composition. The thermosetting fluorine-containing resin powder coating composition of the present invention can be used as a coating composition in various fields where weather resistance is required, and can protect a substrate, particularly a metallic substrate sufficiently.

Fluorine-containing resin powder coating composition having excellent property for protecting substrate

In the thermosetting powder coating composition prepared by a combination use of a fluorine-containing polymer and a polyester polymer and containing a curing agent, the fluorine-containing polymer (A) comprising a fluoroolefin unit and a vinyl ester unit and having a crosslinkable reactive group is used as the fluorine-containing polymer or the polyester polymer (I) containing isophthalic acid and/or 1,4-cyclohexane dicarboxylic acid as essential components and having a crosslinkable reactive group is used as the polyester polymer. By the use of this composition, weather resistance and an appearance of a coating film, for example, gloss and smoothness which are conflicting properties in the thermosetting powder coating composition can be enhanced and well balanced.

A powder coating composition which comprises (A) a fluorine-containing copolymer having a crosslinkable reactive group and (B) a curing agent being capable of forming crosslinkage by reacting with the crosslinkable reactive group of the fluorine-containing copolymer in a weight ratio (A)/(B) of 40/60 to 98/2, and contains rutile titanium oxide and other pigment. The powder coating composition can form a coating film which can exhibit excellent weather resistance even under very strict environment specified in AAMA 2605 standard, etc., and is suitable particularly for an exterior member for building, for example, an aluminum sash.

Powder coating composition having high weather resistance

A method of inhibiting a base metal from rusting which comprises applying to the metallic base a thermosetting fluororesin powder coating composition containing substantially no chlorine. Thus, the metallic base can be effectively prevented from rusting. This method is especially useful for coating in coastal regions where salt damage is a problem, in the outdoors where acid rain causes damage, and in kitchens.
