A solid-state optical device with a plurality of cells having a plurality of optical functions is disclosed. Each of the cells comprises a transparent substrate, an anti-reflection film formed on the lower surface of the transparent substrate, a MOS transistor and a capacitor formed on the upper surface of the transparent substrate, a liquid crystal display device formed on the MOS transistor and capacitor, and window for leading a light signal incident on the liquid crystal display device from above to the transparent substrate. At least either a channel region of the MOS transistor and a region intervening between pair electrodes of the capacitor is formed of a photoconductive film. A transparent medium intervenes between the transparent substrate and photoconductive film such that light signal led through the window to the transparent substrate is reflected by an object disposed in contact with anti-reflection film to reach the photoconductive film, thereby generating carriers therein.

Disclosed is a phase-locked circuit which includes a voltage controlled oscillator to supply a sampling clock signal to an analog-digital converter for converting a composite color television signal into a digital signal, and a control signal generator circuit to apply a control signal to the voltage controlled oscillator in response to the composite color television signal. The control signal generator circuit includes a burst separator for extracting a digital signal component corresponding to a color burst signal from a digital output signal from the analog-digital converter, a phase signal generator producing a reference phase signal, and a digital phase error detector circuit receiving the output signals from the burst separator and phase signal generator and supplying the voltage controlled oscillator with an output signal corresponding to the phase difference between both these input signals.

A signal transmission system embodying this invention which can control errors comprises a selective automatic repeat request (ARQ) system for controlling errors occurring in transmission of data on telephone data communication channels. With this selective ARQ system, an error-controlling signal conducted through a backward channel does not contain a check bit for detection or correction of errors, thereby preventing a time loss which might occur if a error-control signal was repeatedly issued between the transmission and receiving sides. The subject signal-transmitting apparatus is adapted to be used in a static image transmission having a large amount of data and has such a circuit arrangement as attains the efficient transmission of data and the display of an error-free image of good picture quality.
