A steering wheel is disclosed enabling suppressing unnecessary rocking of the airbag module during airbag activation and thereby ensures prescribed deployment performance of the airbag cushion. In detail, the steering wheel is provided with a core metal having a boss part configured so as to be mountable on a steering shaft and an airbag module movably provided with respect to the core metal and having an airbag cushion that can be expanded and deployed. The stopper of the core metal is separated from the stopper contact part of the airbag module in a non-activated state of the airbag, and comes into contact with the stopper contact part due to movement or deformation of the airbag module caused by expansion and deployment of the airbag cushion during activation of the airbag.

The present invention, includes: a damper unit provided between an airbag module that acts as a damper mass for a steering wheel and the steering wheel to dampen vibrations of the steering wheel, an engagement mechanism provided in the airbag module that maintains the airbag module on the steering wheel in a relatively displaceable manner, and protecting means provided on the airbag module for stopping external forces to the engagement mechanism in a non-engaged state with the steering wheel, that may cause deformation, and thereby protecting the engagement mechanism.

An airbag apparatus according to the first aspect of the present invention is configured such that the airbag is housed as a compressed body which is compressed to collapse. The second aspect of the present invention is a method for manufacturing an airbag apparatus, wherein the method includes the step of forming a compressed body of an airbag by compressing the airbag so as to collapse the airbag without rolling or folding the airbag.

[Resolution Means] The steering wheel according to the present invention includes: a cored bar member; an airbag module which houses an airbag cushion and an inflator and is coupled to the cored bar member; and a damper unit arranged between the cored bar member and the airbag module. Here, the damper unit includes: a buffer member including an elastic material; an upper support member supporting the buffer member from above; and a lower support member supporting the buffer member from below. Given that a direction toward the occupant is a first direction, the diffuser includes a receiving surface disposed between the gas generator and the airbag in the first direction to receive the expansion gas discharged from the gas generator; and a plurality of band-like connecting members having one end connected to an edge of the receiving surface and the other end directly or indirectly connected to the gas generator.
