An image display apparatus according to an embodiment of the present technology includes: a light emission unit; and a polarization conversion element. The light emission unit emits image light. The polarization conversion element has an incident surface, converts a polarization state of the image light that enters the incident surface, emits the converted light as image light in an unpolarized state, and is configured such that conversion properties of the polarization state are non-uniform in the incident surface. As a result, it is possible to sufficiently depolarize the image light and display a high-quality image. In addition, it is possible to reduce uneven polarization and speckles.

Image display apparatus and image display unit

An image display apparatus according to an embodiment of the present technology includes an optical modulator, an optical device, and a sensor unit. The optical device splits a modulated light beam modulated by the optical modulator into a first split light beam and a second split light beam, the first split light beam and the second split light beam each travelling in a different direction, and prevents a light beam, which backwardly travels on an optical path of the first split light beam and enters the optical device, from travelling along an optical path of the second split light beam. The sensor unit is disposed on the optical path of the second split light beam and detects a state of the second split light beam.

Image display apparatus

An image display apparatus according to an embodiment of the present technology includes a polarizer, a polarization conversion element, and a &#xbc; wave plate. The polarizer causes to transmit linearly polarized light having a predetermined polarization direction. The polarization conversion element converts a polarization state of the linearly polarized light transmitted through the polarizer and emits the light as light in a non-polarized state. The &#xbc; wave plate is arranged on an optical path of the light in the non-polarized state emitted from the polarization conversion element.

An improvement in quality is achieved by improving a contrast ratio. Therefore, in a projector device including a light source device using a solid-state light source (AR) includes a temperature adjustment device () capable of setting a state in which a temperature of at least the solid-state light source is caused to increase. Then, a determination unit () determines a luminance state of an image and a control unit () controls a heat state of the solid-state light source (AR) by controlling the temperature adjustment device () on the basis of a determination result. In particular, by increasing the temperature of the solid-state light source (AR) in accordance with an image, light emission efficiency is lowered to decrease luminance.

Projector device and control method

[Solving Means] A projector according to the present technology includes a lightbulb, a projection section, and a replacement mechanism. The lightbulb modulates light. The projection section projects light modulated by the lightbulb. The replacement mechanism holds a transmissive member arranged on an optical path between the lightbulb and the projection section and is capable of replacing the transmissive member.

Projector, functional filter, and substitute glass plate

A projector according to the present technology includes a blower mechanism, a liquid crystal lightbulb, a light-incident-side polarization plate, and a light-emitting-side polarization plate. The blower mechanism generates a cooling wind. The light-incident-side polarization plate includes a plurality of wires formed to extend non-parallel to the cooling wind blown by the blower mechanism and is arranged on a light-incident side of the liquid crystal lightbulb. The light-emitting-side polarization plate includes a plurality of wires formed to extend non-parallel to the cooling wind blown by the blower mechanism and is arranged on a light-emitting side of the liquid crystal lightbulb.

Projector and optical unit

There is provided an image display apparatus including: a light source unit; at least one light modulation device configured to modulate light from the light source unit, and to emit a modulated light beam; and a sensor configured to receive diffracted light of the modulated light beam emitted from the at least one light modulation device, and to measure intensity of the modulated light.

Image display apparatus and control method

There is provided a projection apparatus including a color synthesis section, a polarization conversion section, and a projection lens. The color synthesis section is configured to combine three-primary color light and emit combined light. The polarization conversion section is disposed on a light-emission side of the color synthesis section, the polarization conversion section being configured to put the color light in the combined light in a non-polarized state uniformly in all directions. The projection lens is configured to emit light provided by the polarization conversion section.

An optical device includes: a light synthesis prism that synthesizes incident light beams which are incident to a plurality of incidence surfaces and outputs the synthesized light beams; a light modulation unit that includes an optical compensation element and a reflective light modulation device; and a fixing member that fixes a reflective polarization element and the light modulation unit to the light synthesis prism so as to correspond to one of the incidence surfaces, wherein the light modulation unit includes a light blocking member that blocks light from reaching the light modulation unit and limits light with which the optical compensation element and the reflective light modulation device are irradiated, to light passing an aperture portion; and a heat insulating member that comes into contact with the light blocking member and the fixing member.
