A printing apparatus comprises a supply unit configured to supply a print medium, a roller configured to transport the print medium, a printing unit configured to print on the print medium, and a control unit capable of controlling the supply unit and the roller to create a state of overlap in which a leading end part of a following print medium overlaps a following end part of a preceding print medium on an upstream side of the first roller with respect to the transport direction of the print medium. The control unit adjusts an overlap amount in the state of overlap on the upstream side of the first roller in the transport direction of the print medium based on print data for the preceding print medium and print data for the following print medium.

A printing apparatus includes a control unit that reduces an overlap amount of a preceding print medium and a succeeding print medium, from an overlap state in which the succeeding print medium overlaps a trailing edge of the preceding print medium and alternately performs an operation of conveying a print medium by a first conveyance unit and a printing operation of ejecting ink on the print medium while moving a carriage in a state in which the print medium stops. The reduction control conveys the preceding print medium conveyed by the second conveyance unit faster than the succeeding print medium conveyed by the first conveyance unit, in a state in which the printing control for the succeeding print medium is executed.

A recording apparatus includes a recording unit configured to perform recording on a recording medium placed at a first position, a placement unit configured to place the recording medium on the placement unit, and a pressing member configured to apply a pressing force to the recording medium placed on the placement unit toward the placement unit in a case where the recording medium is at the first position, and to release the pressing force in a case where the recording medium moves from the first position.

A printing apparatus includes a conveyance unit to convey a print medium, a belt, a tensioner, and a control unit. The belt transmits a driving force of a drive unit to the conveyance unit. The tensioner is displaceable and makes pressure contact with the belt to generate tension. The control unit controls driving of the drive unit in a state where the tensioner is in pressure contact with the belt. The control unit performs first control in which the drive unit is driven with a first control value, which is not based on a driving amount detected by a detection unit. Where the detection unit detects the driving amount, the control unit subsequently performs second control in which the drive unit is driven with a second control value, which is based on the driving amount detected by the detection unit.

A printing apparatus includes a printing unit to eject a liquid to an object to be printed in a first direction to perform printing, a placement unit on which the object is placed, and a detection unit capable of detecting a position of the object in the first direction in a noncontact manner. Provided is an inkjet printing apparatus capable of wiping off contamination on a platen efficiently. To that end, a cleaning sheet in which a first crease and a second crease are formed is conveyed to clean the platen in the printing apparatus. In this operation, the conveyance of the cleaning sheet is controlled so that the cleaning sheet moves back and forth with the first crease of the cleaning sheet being in contact with a first region of the platen. Further, the conveyance of the cleaning sheet is controlled so that the cleaning sheet moves back and forth with the second crease of the cleaning sheet being in contact with a second region of the platen, the second region being at a position different from the first region in the conveyance direction.
