A liquid agent for a contact lens containing, as a preservative or sterilizing component, a carboxylated amine represented by the following formula, ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents an alkyl group having 6-18 carbon atoms, R.sub.2 represents an alkylene group having 1-18 carbon atoms, A represents Na, K or H, and X represents H or --R.sub.3 COOZ group, wherein R.sub.3 represents an alkylene group having 1-18 carbon atoms and Z represents Na, K or H.
