Carbon containing compound treating apparatus with resistance to carbon

An apparatus for treating carbon containing compounds such as hydrocarbons or their derivatives, or carbon monoxide or the like at temperatures higher than 500.degree. C., wherein at least a member contacting with said carbon containing compounds at temperatures higher than 500.degree. C. is composed of any one of Fe base, Ni base and Co base alloys or their mixed Fe-Ni, Fe-Co, Ni-Co and Fe-Ni-Co alloys, each containing at least 28 wt.% of Cr, and this member can exhibit a superior resistance to carbon deposition.

A centrifugally cast double-layer tube with resistance to carbon deposition, comprising an inner layer of a specific metallic material containing 1-10 wt % of Al and an outer layer of a heat resisting metallic material, can be applied to apparatuses for treating a fluid, containing hydrocarbons, their derivatives, or carbon monoxide, at elevated temperatures and to piping for transferring the fluid without carbon deposition on its inside surface, because the surface of said inner layer is oxidized to form a firm Al-containing oxide film prior to and/or during the treatment of the fluid, and also a sufficient strength and ductility of the tube are preserved by the support of the outer layer of said tube.

A process for providing an apparatus for treating hydrocarbons or the like fluids at a high temperature substantially without carbon deposition is described. At least portions of the apparatus which are to be contacted with the high temperature fluid, are made of a specific alloy containing 1-10% by weight of aluminum and, if desired, oxidized before or upon contact with the high temperature fluid to form an aluminum-containing oxide film.
