There is provided an image forming apparatus capable of realizing a trial printing function that minimizes unnecessary consumption of time and supplies. Images that are inputted are accumulated in a memory. An output mode is set and a setting is made as to whether trial printing is to be carried out in the output mode or not. A CPU provides control to read out a corresponding image from the memory according to the set output mode and form the readout image on a sheet. When it is determined that the trial printing is to be carried out during image formation according to the set output mode, the CPU provides control to set the number of trial print pages according to predetermined conditions and carry out the trial printing for the set number of trial print pages.

In processing documents, a scan-all-first mode is available, in which a set of documents is input part by part until all documents have been input, and, after completion of the input process, an output process is performed as a single job for the set of documents. Disclosed are an image forming apparatus and an image forming method for, in the halted state where trial copying of one set is completed, determining whether a mode has been changed, and for automatically changing a numeral accordingly. According to the present invention, an image forming apparatus comprises: an image input device, for entering an image; a storage device, for storing the image; an image forming unit, for reading the image from the storage unit and for forming the image; and a controller, for providing control for the image forming unit in accordance with a mode set for an image copying process, wherein a function is provided that can set a trial copying mode for an image forming process and can copy one set when the trial copying mode is effective, and that can thereafter temporarily halt the image forming process and enable a mode reset, and wherein for a copying operation performed after the trial copying mode is released, a numeral can be set to a predetermined value in accordance with a mode change effected during a halted state existing immediately before the copying.

An ink jet textile printing method forms an image on cloths in an image forming operation by repeating a step of applying ink on the cloths from an ink discharge port of a recording head, the recording head relatively main-scanning to form the image in a main scan direction, and a step of relatively conveying the cloths in a sub-scan direction. The method includes the steps of forming the image on the cloths by applying ink on the cloths from the recording head based on image data. The method further includes the step of temporarily stopping the image forming operation in accordance with an indication to effect a temporary halt of the image forming operation. When the temporary halt is indicated while the recording head performs a main scan in the image forming operation, the image forming operation by the main scan is completed, and then the temporary halt of the image forming operation is effected by moving the recording head to a standby position. The method still further includes the step of releasing the temporary halt of the image forming operation and restarting the image forming operation in accordance with an indication for releasing the temporary halt of the image forming operation. When the release of the temporary halt is indicated, ink is discharged from the ink discharge port and then the image forming operation is restarted.

An output signal of an optical reading line sensor is converted into a digital signal by an A/D converter and, thereafter, is shading corrected by a shading correction circuit, and is inputted to a magnification processing circuit through a selector. An optical reading scanning speed by the line sensor can be freely changed. There are a first mode for zooming a read image by changing the scanning speed of the line sensor, a second mode for zooming the read image by the magnification processing circuit, and a third mode for commonly performing the zoom by changing the scanning speed of the line sensor and the zoom by the magnification processing circuit. Any one of the modes is adaptively selected in accordance with a size of original and a reading resolution.

An ink jet textile printing apparatus for performing printing by reading an original image created by a designer, converting the original image into original data represented by an electric signal, retrieving the original data for processing to be output as image data, and recording data on cloth based on the image data. The ink jet textile printing apparatus has a first ink jet recording head provided upstream of a recording position, and a second ink jet recording head provided downstream thereof, and is provided with a drying unit located between the recording heads, whereby high-quality recorded images with less bleeding can be obtained by recording on a recording area again with the second ink jet recording head after drying the recording area on the cloth recorded by the first ink jet recording head with the drying unit.
