A method of seizing Time Division Multiplex terminations at a media gateway controlled by a plurality of media gateway controllers. The method comprises receiving at the media gateway from one of said media gateway controllers, a gateway control protocol request to seize a TDM termination, the request specifying a route but not a specific Time Division Multiplex termination (). The specified route is mapped to a set of Time Division Multiplex terminations, and one termination from the set seized on behalf of the requesting media gateway controller (). A gateway control protocol response is then sent from said media gateway to the requesting mobile switching center, the response identifying the seized termination ().

Circuit allocation within a communication core network

A method of detecting media plane faults within a communications network. The method comprises, following the establishment of a media plane connection between first and second end point nodes within the network, where the connection transits one or more intermediate nodes within the media plane, sending session test requests from the first end point towards the second end point across a supervision session established over the media plane, and sending session test acknowledgements from the second end point to the first end point, the session test acknowledgements identifying a first border of the supervision session. The method further comprises, in the event of a media plane fault, responding to the sending of a further session test request by returning a further session test acknowledgement identifying a second border of the supervision session. The media plane fault can be detected by comparing the first and second supervision session borders contained in session test acknowledgements.

Network fault detection method and apparatus

The present invention relates to a system and method for setting up communication between a first and a second user equipment in a mobile radio communications system, wherein said first user equipment is attempting a multimedia call to said second user equipment. The method is characterized by the steps of: receiving a multimedia call request in a video gateway relating to said multimedia call; sending a voice call request from said video gateway towards said second user equipment in order to set up a voice connection between the video gateway and said second user equipment; setting up a multimedia connection between the video gateway and said first user equipment; and forwarding audio, received over said multimedia connection, onto said voice connection and forwarding audio, received over said voice connection, onto said multimedia connection.

Method and an apparatus for handling multimedia calls

A method of setting up and/or controlling a multimedia call involving an H.324 enabled user terminal and a circuit switched connection terminating at the user terminal and at a video gateway, the method comprising: sending DTMF control signals over the circuit switched connection within H.245 protocol control messages; and on the basis of said DTMF control signals, routing or re-routing the connection to an appropriate data source or mapping the connection to an appropriate data source.

Intelligent multimedia calls

The present invention relates in general to video communication networks and more specifically to a method for interworking between a number of video communication terminals, to a video communication system, and to a video interactive gateway unit. The solution according to the present invention makes it possible to interwork between different terminals e.g. between a low bit-rate multimedia terminal and a packet based multimedia terminal.

Method and system for interworking between video communication terminals

A method of performing lawful interception of a multimedia call between two or more terminals. The method comprises detecting the initiation of said call at monitoring equipment located in the call path, and forwarding from the monitoring equipment to a gateway, parameters defining at least one of the forward and reverse channels of said call. At least one multimedia call is set up from said gateway to a monitoring terminal in dependence upon the received parameters. Following the setting up of the first mentioned multimedia call, forward and/or reverse channel data is intercepted at said monitoring equipment, the intercepted data routed to said gateway, and the data transmitted to the monitoring terminal over the forward channel of the or each second mentioned multimedia call.

Lawful interception of multimedia calls

A method of setting up a call between first and second nodes of a communication system when the call extends across a circuit switched access network and a packet switched backbone network interconnected by a Media Gateway. A control node obtains from a Home Subscriber Server, the identity of a Media Gateway Control Function controlling that Media Gateway which will terminate the call within the circuit switched access network. The first node calls an access number notified to it by the Media Gateway Control Function, and as part of the call setup procedure, the identity of the Media Gateway selected to terminate the call is communicated to the second node.

A method of performing a SRNS Relocation in a UMTS network for a given UE, the method comprising sending a Relocation Required message from the serving RNC to the core network and sending a Relocation Request message from the core network to the target RNC, the Relocation Required message containing a RRC Initialisation Information container which is incorporated transparently by the core network into the Relocation Request message, and the RRC Initialisation Information container in turn containing information enabling a mapping to be made between RABs and RBs for the UE.

Signalling over the Gs interface in a mobile telecommunications network

The present invention relates to a method and an arrangement and an apparatus for implementing and monitoring a call in a telecommunications system in which the call is routed from a first transceiver to a second transceiver via a first switching center and a second subsequent switching center. In the solution a call setup message from the first switching center to the second switching center includes an address of said first switching center, the call setup message is intercepted at a telecommunications node intermediate to the first and second switching centers, whereafter the address of the first switching center is replaced with an address of the intermediate node. The call set up message transmission is forwarded then to the second switching center, and a response message including call set up information and using end to end signalling is transmitted from said second switching center, said response message using said substitute address of the intermediate node and being terminated in the intermediate node.

Charging in a telecommunications system

New services and/or new subscribers are efficiently and flexibly defined and added to a mobile communications network using service groups and service group identifiers. One or more groups of mobile subscribers are defined, and a group identifier is assigned to each member of the group. One or more services are established for the group of mobile subscribers and are associated with the group identifier. In particular, the group identifier links each member of the group with the established services. Using this service group approach, existing mobile communications system nodes are readily updated with new service and subscriber information. Likewise, subscriber service information may be easily restored to corrupted mobile databases. Advantageously, the signaling and time required to perform location update procedures as mobile units move between different location areas in a mobile communications system are considerably reduced.
