A system and method for moving wireless subscribers previously registered with a failed source MSC/VLR or SGSN to a new target MSC/VLR or SGSN in GSM and UMTS networks, using super-charger technology. The present invention allows mobile subscriber IMSIs to be transmitted to a new target MSC/VLR or SGSN before a source MSC/VLR or SGSN fails. Upon failure of the source MSC/VLR or SGSN, the addresses of the source MSC/VLR or SGSN serving the transmitted IMSIs are updated in an HLR and are associated with the addresses of the new target MSC/VLR or SGSN using MAP location update procedures. In another embodiment of the present invention, the addresses of the source MSC/VLR or SGSN servicing mobile subscribers are updated in an HLR to the addresses of the new target MSC/VLR or SGSN without the need for mobile subscribe IMSIs.

System and method for IMSI list based VLR resilience

A method and equipment for implementing call forwarding in a mobile system having at least one forwarding exchange and at least one subscriber database is provided so that routing of a forwarded call can be implemented. The forwarding exchange can receive a call addressed to a subscriber in the mobile system. A subscriber data request can be performed to a subscriber database connected to the forwarding exchange. A response message containing data the call forwarding and a forwarding number can be transmitted from the subscriber database to the forwarding exchange. Basic service data indicating basic service related to the call can be transmitted from the subscriber database to the forwarding exchange in connection with the response message. A basic service code is derived the service data and the call can be transferred to the forwarding number. The routing can be arranged according to the basic service code.

Routing of call forwarding according to basic services

A mobile communication system includes at least one subscriber database containing subscriber data and exchanges connected to each other by communication paths. At least one of the exchanges includes means for transmitting a request to the subscriber database. The request includes at least a B-subscriber number to a terminating call. To provide a system that is capable of selecting the optimum communication path for a terminating call, the subscriber database includes means for retrieving and transmitting to an exchange, a basic service code that corresponds to the B-subscriber number included in the request. The exchange includes means for routing the terminating call to the B-subscriber number by using communication paths that fulfill the property requirements of the call type indicated by the basic service code.

Call routing

It is advantageous to distribute tasks of network services logically into separate service programs and also physically into several control points. A problem in task distribution is the single point of control, whereby only one service program at a time can control the call. The invention concerns a method of service distribution to several service programs (SLP). A control relationship is formed between the switching point (SSP, MSC) and the service program (SLP) providing it with instructions. The method according to the invention is characterized in that the controllability of the relationship is divided into controllability classes, of which at least one is allocated to the service program (SLP) controlling the switching point (SSP, MSC) so that each controllability class is allocated to only one service program at a time, and the call is controlled by the service within the limitations of the control authorization of each controllability class.

Distribution of services in telecommunications network

The invention is based on the idea that in an intelligent network the order of execution of service programs at one point during the call, such as the detection point, is defined, and the service programs are contacted in this order until instructions are received to leave the point or release the call. The order of execution is defined by dealing with one category of service-related detection points after another, and within each category with a control relationship the order of execution is defined by a priority set for service programs.

Execution of services in intelligent network

In telecommunications networks the problem with call forwarding restriction according to prior art is that access through call forwarding to numbers with ensuring an answer rather than possible further forwarding is not possible. The invention is based on the idea that call forwarding is allowed despite call forwarding restriction when the number to be used in forwarding the call meets special conditions set beforehand. The number is thus compared with the preset conditions and depending on the result of this comparison the call is either forwarded or not.

Call forwarding in a telecommunications network

The invention relates to a direct data access (DDA) from a digital mobile network to a data network in a centralized manner in a first mobile switching center (MSC ). Another switching center (MSCI) is arranged to route a mobile data call, addressed to the centralized DDA, to MSC as a digital call according to a bearer service (UDI) supported by the mobile network. The interworking function of the routed data call are divided between the MSCs. MSC comprises a first interworking function (IWF ) that provides the adaptation functions required by the centralized DDA and the digital bearer service. MSC comprises a second interworking function (IWFI) providing the adaptation functions required by the radio connection and the digital bearer service.

Methods for processing an outgoing and an incoming call in a mobile

In order to to enable an operator to control the subscriber's long distance carrier usage in a telecommunications network, a new subscriber-specific parameter, a locking parameter, is added to the subscriber data by the operator, in addition to a preferred long distance carrier access code. The locking parameter defines whether said subscriber is allowed to select the long distance carrier for the call or not. The locking parameter is checked each time the subscriber dials the long distance carrier access code during an originating call setup. In an embodiment of the invention, if the locking parameter indicates the subscriber is not allowed to select the long distance carrier, the call setup will be always terminated, preferably after making an announcement for informing the subscriber of the cause of the termination.
